Christine yawned sleepily and stood up slowly. She brushed the wrinkles out of her dress and smiled at him. "So, shall we head back?" she asked quietly, shyly sliding her hand into his.

Nodding, Sky replied, "Yeah, let's go." Getting to his feet, he felt his eyes burn with tears from the pain in his leg that was steadily growing worse. Determined to not let Christine see, Sky put on a bright smile and walked without limping even though he felt very much as if he was going to fall over and die at any moment.

Christine was not fooled for a moment. "Sit, rest, don't think I can't tell you're hurting," she said gently. "C'mon. We don't want you to end up with a crippled leg," she continued. She was so very concerned for him.

Sky glanced at her and then, not saying a word, fell back onto the ground. Pulling his uninjured leg up to his chest, Sky arched a brow and dryly asked, "Am I that obvious?"

"Just a little," she said, sinking down to sit next to him. "Do you want me to get someone to help you get back to the cottage or do you want to rest here for a while and see if you rest that you can walk again?"

"I think I'll just sit here and rest for a while, but you shouldn't wait around. It's probably getting close to dinner-time and I bet you're hungry, so go ahead and go on home. I'll catch up with you in a few."

"And face your mother for leaving you behind? No, thank you. That woman isn't fond of me to start with," Christine said, shuddering. "I'll wait. Besides, if I get hungry I can just forge for some fruit and berries."

Sky grinned and then replied, "Aww, my mother isn't that bad. She just a little . . . uptight." Waving his hand he added, "Go on. Really - I'll be okay. Besides, it'll be getting dark pretty soon and I don't want you out in it - even if I am with you."

"If you say so," Christine said, sounding very reluctant. She turned to go and looked over her shoulder. She felt guilty for leaving - even if he told her too.

Watching her walk away, Sky felt an intense fear well up in his chest, to the point that he was almost tempted to call her back. But he had his pride, and he firmly kept his mouth shut and watched her fade out of his sight.
Looking up at the sky, he noticed that it was becoming rapidly dark. Closing his eyes, Sky repeated to himself, "You have nothing to fear, you have nothing to fear, you have nothing to fear." With no one else around, Sky could admit to himself that he was afraid of what was in the woods a bit of a ways off. Even though he knew that the chance of him getting attacked by another wolf was slim, Sky couldn't help but wish that his leg would stop hurting already so that he could just go. But unfortunately, his leg seemed in no mood to cooperate, so Sky simply sat beneath the tree, his eyes glued to the woods.

Christine decidedly did not like traveling the woods at night. Not at all. She was a bit terrified from that attack on Sky and she really didn't know what it was all about. She glanced every which way, trying to make sure nothing was following her.

Rubbing his palms against his legs, Sky felt himself grow even more nervous. Shaking his head, he muttered, "Oh for Pete's sake - is this how I'm going to be for the rest of my life? Have I suddenly transformed into a chicken?" With great resolve, Sky tore his gaze away from the woods and decided that he had nothing to fear. In fact, it was probably so safe out here that he could go right back to sleep and nothing would harm him in the least. To test his theory, Sky slid down to the ground so that he was lying on his back and then he closed his eyes, waiting for himself to drift off. Five minutes later, he was fast asleep.

Christine rubbed her arms as she walked through the forest. It was cold that night and she didn't feel safe. Uncle Orin hadn't been able to find that wolf after it attacked and that scared all the females in the house.
"Sumer is icumen in, Lhude sing cuccu! Groweth sed, and bloweth med, And springth the wude nu— Sing cuccu! Awe bleteth after lomb, Lhouth after calve cu; Bulluc sterteth, bucke verteth, Murie sing cuccu! Cuccu, cuccu, well singes thu, cuccu: Ne swike thu naver nu; Sing cuccu, nu, sing cuccu, Sing cuccu, sing cuccu, nu!" she sang quietly.
She paused when she heard something. It sounded like a wolf. "Lyon?" she called, frantic. "I'm scared."

Under the tree Sky slept quite easily; even given his fears, his exhaustion overrode everything else and he had given in to blissful sleep.
As he slept, however, a wind had picked up and Sky shivered, his clothes too thin to keep him warm. After several more large gusts of wind, Sky woke up, disoriented and grumpy because of the crick that had developed in his neck. Pushing himself up to a sitting position, Sky stretched his arms above his head before gently rotating his leg. Pleased to see that the pain had subsided for the most part, sky pushed himself to his feet, glad to be able to finally get out of the dark.

Christine was running, terrified. The wolves were back and that meant trouble. She wished Lyon was there, she knew he'd be able to protect her. She tripped over a tree root and fell, hurting her ankle and her wrists. She let out a high pitched scream.
