Christine glanced at the roses and turned back to look at Sky. "Yeah, they are," she said quietly. "As for how I'm feeling, I'd love to be able to sit up, but I'm still too sore to do so." She struggled to sit up again, wincing as she did so. "Okay, I'll try to sit up later."
Her hand slipped protectively to her stomach where her wound was. "Sky... there's something wrong, isn't there..." Did the doctor tell him something that he wasn't telling her? "Sky?"

Sky frowned as he said uncomfortably, "What do you mean?" Realizing how that sounded, Sky quickly masked his concern. "I'm sure whatever you think is wrong is nothing. You're alive and that's all that matters, right?" Gently, he took her hand in his and squeezed it lightly. "So all you need to do is focus on getting well, all right?" With a teasing inflection in his voice, he continued, "I won't have you missing any more class than is absolutely necessary."

Christine laughed quietly. "And here Riven said I wasn't falling behind, at least to my standards." She glanced away for a moment. "I heard one of the nurses say I was a poor girl and that it was such a shame that I was injured that way. I want the truth, Sky. What did the doctor tell you that he hasn't told me?"

Sky shook his head as he said, clearly flustered, "Ah . . . well . . . if Dr. Sterling hasn't told you something then he probably has his reasons - not that he's hiding anything from you. It's just that, uh, if he was . . . well, for starters, he can't hide anything from you. He's your doctor and he's obligated by law to tell you exactly what is going on. Now then, doesn't that reassure you?"

"I suppose," Christine said quietly, feeling strangely bereft. Sky was hiding something from her and so was the doctor. She was going to have to find out the truth at some point. She tilted her head and looked at him. "You going to be okay?" she asked quietly.

With a thin smile, Sky nodded. "So as long as you're out of harm's way, I'll be okay. You're one of my best friends, you know, and if anything should happen to you . . ." Sky shook his head. "Actually, I don't even want to think about what my life would be like if you weren't in it."

Christine reached up and touched his face, resting her hand against his cheek. "I don't plan on going anywhere in the near future," she said quietly. "I think you might be stuck with me," she added with a light laugh.
Oh, how very hard it was not to read anything into what Sky said...

At the feel of Christine's touch, Sky reeled back as he pushed himself to his feet. Awkwardly, he slowly backed out of the room, laughing nervously. "Uh . . . I . . . I think I'm going to go see if the others want to come see you. You've been sleeping for quite a while and so they haven't had a chance to come see you yet." Rubbing the back of his neck, Sky rambled, "I think Codatorta is out there, actually. You wouldn't think he'd be the type to come down to the hospital but he did and he sent you some flowers - I think we all know that he has a soft spot in his heart for you. Probably because you're one of the best students he's ever had, but you already knew that. Umm . . . so yeah. I'll go get him and tell him that you're awake and all and that you want to see him. You do want to see him, right? Of course you do; what was I thinking by even bothering to ask. Anyway, I'll send him right in." OOC: No one would mind if I RPed Codatorta for a little while, right? Because Codatorta is pure awesomeness

OOC: no problems here Christine shook her head mentally. One of these days she was going to have to strap him to a chair and actually have a discussion with him about what they were. Friends? Right. "Of course," she said absently. "I'm sure he's going to give me a lecture on how I need to improve my fighting skill."

Knocking lightly on the door, Codatorta stood in the frame as he asked in his thick brogue, "'Ey there, missy; can I come in?"

Christine nodded as she once again attempted to sit up. Of course, it hurt a great deal as she struggled to sit up but she was not going to be lying down when she could easily sit up and talk. Besides, wasn't training to be a specialist a grueling experience - well, this could count for it.
"Hello, professor," she said quietly.

Moving closer to Christine's bedside, Codatorta offered her a cheery smile as he said good-naturedly, "Get yourself into a bit o' trouble, eh? That doctor of yours said that you got into a fight with a werewolf." Taking a seat, Codatorta asked with lifted brows, "Now how did you manage that? Although, for what it's worth, I must say I'm mighty proud of you. Not just anyone could have taken on one of those creatures and make it out alive - but I always knew you had something special in you. You're a trooper if I ever saw one." Giving Christine another smile, Codatorta continued, "Now, I know you're worried about fallin' behind in class, but don't you give it another thought. You're light years ahead of most of your classmates, save Sky and maybe Riven, and injured or not, you can still dance circles around the best of 'em." Lightly patting Christine's arm, he finished with a stern look, "You just focus on gettin' yourself healed, young lady so I can have my star student back in class sooner than later, understand?"

Christine nodded. "Of course," she said quietly. "As for how I got into the fight," she glanced to the hallway, where Sky was probably standing. "Let's just say, a knight in shining armor saved me from a wolf when I was a child so, it was my turn to repay his kindness..."
She'd give details if pressed only.

Following the direction of Christine's gaze, Codatorta frowned in confusion before it clicked in his mind who she was referring to. Whistling softly under his breath, Codatorta said without bothering to beat around the bush, "You talkin' about Sky, aren't you?" Folding his hands behind his head, Codatorta said, "Sounds complicated." Narrowing his eyes, Codatorta asked after a few minutes, "You want to talk about it, don't you? Maybe not to me, in particular, but you want to talk about it. Actually, that's not the case; you probably don't want to talk about it, but you need to. I can tell. People often think I'm just a big tough guy without a lick of intuitive qualities, but they're sorely mistaken." Pointing a finger at Christine, he finished, "You need to get some things off your chest, lass - and you need to do it soon. It just isn't healthy to be carrying around burdens by yourself. So here's a little piece of unwarranted advice: you need to have a little heart-to-heart with some of those lads you call your friends."

"Carrying around burdens is part of my curse," she said quietly. "And it's my penance for whatever evil Darkar committed while I was his prisoner and saw for him against my will." She glanced away. "But, I will take your advice, and I will talk to them. If only to maintain my sanity."
