Instead of retreating to her room, Christine retreated to the observatory and sat on the edge. She felt like she earned the right to sulk. So she reacted badly *once* to Sky's condition. That didn't mean the next time she saw it that she was going to react the same. He needed to have more faith in her. Besides, who wouldn't react badly to seeing the man you love in his cursed state when said man wouldn't let you see what he looked like before?
Maybe... maybe Riven was right - she had gotten hung up on Sky. Maybe it was time for her to let go.
No. Doing that now would just shatter him. She'd wait. Wait until after his curse was broken before she attempted to tell him that she was tired and worn out and didn't have the energy to keep up her end of things.
The sound of footsteps behind her drew her out of her current sulk. She glanced over her shoulder to find...

Coming to a stop, Sky wordlessly stood with his hands shoved into his pockets. For a long moment, he said nothing before he finally gave her a thin smile and then said, "I thought I would find you up here." Drawing a bit closer to her, he continued with a sigh, "Look, I'm sorry about what happened back there, okay? I know you feel offended that I don't want you to stay with me, but I'm just not ready for you to see me like that. I'm not trying to treat you like a china doll and I'm not trying to alienate you. I'm just trying to come to terms with this in my own way and I need you to accept that."

"All right," she said softly, reluctant to agree. It felt too much like giving in and she hated to give in. She sighed softly. "Just promise me that you won't shut me out..?"

Leaning against the railing to watch the sky change colors, he remained silent for a moment before he finally answered, "I wouldn't want to do that, Chris; you know you're one of the few people I trust completely."

Her eyes crinkled up as she smiled. "You know, I don't have lessons today and since we're on the same team, that means you don't either. So, up for a small picnic? You, me, nothing but peace and quiet?"

Sky raised his eyebrows as he asked teasingly, a bit of his old self coming through, "Peace? Quiet? You? Ha! You're much too spirited for that, I'm afraid - but, I suppose it wouldn't hurt for you to try to be still for once." With a mock bow, he continued, "Therefore, Lady Strongheart, I accept."

"Your highness is most gracious," she said teasingly. She was tempted to lean over and swat him for teasing her but well, after this morning, she'd lay off on the swatting. "I'll have you know I can be just as prim and proper as the rest of the feminine royals. I just choose not to."

Sky laughed as he said, "You know, it's funny that for as similar as you are to Layla in your love for athletics and the way you both scoff at being 'prim and proper', I like your company but not hers." With a wry smile, he added, "Probably because she thinks I'm the equivalent of an ass."

Christine shook her head, amused. "You raise a good point," she said softly. "Now," she added, tilting her head. "Do you want to be in charge of getting the food or should that be my job? I only ask because I don't know your appetite."

Tapping his chin in thought, Sky replied, "Well, since I am providing you with my wonderful company, I say you bring the food." Laughing softly, he continued, "But in all seriousness, I wanted to speak to Codatorta today about doing some make-up work for the time I missed in class, so I don't think I'm going to have time to run out and get stuff to eat."

"Okay, so how much meat should I bring? A whole cow?" she asked, playfully reminding him of the time he had eaten a whole cow - bones, hooves, the whole nine yards - while he had been a dragon. She held up her arms in self defense, dodging any pending swats. "I tease, I tease."

Grimacing at that memory, Sky answered dryly, "No, no, that won't be necessary. In fact, skip the meat because I think that experience has officially converted me into a cracker, cheese, and wine kind of man."

She nodded, although, she had a feeling his wolf self was going to protest the lack of meat. But she'd refuse to bring it up. "So, just wine, cheese and crackers?" she asked, tilting her head ever so slightly.

Grinning, he replied, "Well, I wouldn't want you to feel deprived, so get whatever you're in the mood for too. I'll even be a gentleman and sport you the cash to pay for it." Reaching for his wallet, he asked, "How much do you think you'll need?"

"Twenty," she said softly. "I just got paid a few days ago and I hadn't touched it so," she gave a soft shrug. "Might as well use it." She paused a moment and bit her lower lip. "You're still allowed chocolate, right?"
