"I seem to recall you threatening to tell my mother that I was standing in my wet clothing in front of you after I jumped into the river to avoid getting caught by you when we racing in the forest," she said with a light laugh.

"Oh, that," Sky replied with a chuckle as he fondly felt himself transported back to that memory. With a wistful smile, Sky knew that a part of him deeply desired to go back to that point in life - when he had been nothing more than a boy and his only real concerns had been how to prolong having to get properly dressed for dinner. But there was no use in lingering over things that could never again be; thoughts like that only cluttered up space that needed to be used to focus on the present - on the more pressing issues.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Sky gave Christine a sheepish smile, knowing that she was probably wondering where his mind had gone off too. Hoping to avoid any such discussion on that matter, he quickly cleared his throat and then continued, "Yeah, I was never going to seriously tell her, you know. I never was much of a tattletale."

Christine's mouth formed a perfect "o" in shock. "You little fink!" she cried. "I thought you were being serious!" She leaned over and swatted his arm. "You seriously gave me heart failure when I was younger. I thought you were honestly going to tell my mother.

Sky chuckled as he said, "Well now you know the truth - although," at this a mischievous tint came into his eyes, "perhaps I should pay a visit to your mother. After all, if we're putting the truth out there, she ought to know what you did - even if it has been almost ten years."

"I so should hit you for that," Christine muttered. "But I'm sure Mother wouldn't remember what you're talking about. I think she chose to forget it because of how Demetrius was towards her. I do think she nearly talked Carolinus into turning Demetrius into a rabbit."

"And just what did Demetrius do to her that made her dislike him so much?" Sky questioned with a sudden spark of curiosity. Though he knew his friend had quite a few flaws, he also thought everyone agreed that his positive traits more than compensated for them - especially his loyalty and protectiveness of those he loved.

"Hm... let's see, oh, yes, the ever unpopular chauvinist pig routine," Christine said blandly. "Let's just say, he and my mother butted heads."

Thinking for a moment, Sky countered good-naturedly, "Well, I say that's a very parochial opinion of yours, Christine; you say, 'chauvinist,' I say, 'born into a culture with different values than your own.'"

Christine laughed. "All right, point taken. I just hope Demetrius never meets Aunt Danielle or Uncle Orin. I don't think the result would be pretty." She gave a playful cringe. "So, back on topic of the picnic... What do you recommend I wear?"

Furrowing his brow, Sky replied, mildly confused why she would ask him something like that - something that seemed more along the lines of something Bloom would say, "Uh . . . something comfortable?"

"Okay, I wasn't sure if a sundress was going to be appropriate for a wine, cheese and cracker picnic," she said, her eyes crinkling up in amusement.

"I'm sure you'll be fine in whatever you choose to wear," Sky replied. Glancing down at his watch, he then gave her an apologetic smile as he said, "It's about six now and you know what that means - Codatorta will be heading out to the arena to work with the dragons soon; if you don't mind, I'd like to catch up with him before he gets too into his lesson." With an exaggerated shudder, he continued, "Because you know how much he hates it when someone interrupts him."

"Go, shoo, off with you. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding me," she said softly, laughing. "Besides, I need to get dressed if I'm going to make sure we have a lunch for the picnic." With that, she gave him a shy little kiss on the cheek and scampered down the stairs.

After Christine had left, Sky turned back around and leaned his arms against the railing, contenting himself to look out across the scenery before him. With a firm nod of his head, he told himself silently that the day was going to be a good - no, great. He would do as Christine had said - enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. He would only think pleasant thoughts and he wouldn't let anything get him down; he deserved that much, didn't he? After all that he had been through, wasn't it only right that he escape for a little while? Even if it was only for a few hours?
With a reluctant sigh, Sky finally dragged himself away from the railing; as wonderful as it would be to just stay up here alone with his thoughts, he had other things to attend to.
