Sky narrowed his eyes suspiciously at Flora. "What would me serving Darkar be of any use for? Perhaps I am just blind, but I fail to see how me becoming evil will save Christine. So please, do enlighten me."

Flora's golden eyes closed part way. "Pain can be such a motivator when one's dealing with a very reluctant seer," she said quietly. "But perhaps with you being here would keep that from happening."

Sky stared at Flora wordlessly. He wasn't sure how to respond . . . not with her being so . . . cryptic. Her words didn't make sense - or perhaps he just wasn't thinking straight. And how could he? In a situation like this, with one of his closest friends chained to the ground . . . it was unthinkable.
Not wanting to say too much, Sky asked, keeping his face expressionless, "What do you mean?"

"What did it sound like?" Flora asked, looking at him. "Pain is such a motivator and do you think your little girlfriend would willing betray you and her friends by helping us? The answer would be no, so she'd need a little prompting. That's where pain comes in. And that can come in many fashions."

"Such as?" Sky asked coolly, although on the inside he felt his stomach churning and his blood growing icy. He didn't want to hear this; his mind was protesting . . . but he had to know. The more he knew the better it would be for him in the long-run.

Flora's golden eyes focused on a small poker nestled in a fire. "Oh, something like that," she said, gesturing to the tool. "Apply to the skin and there's such a lovely burn. That would get her to stop hesitating." She leaned back to see how he'd react.

Sky stared at Flora as a wave of nausea swept through his body. Shaking his head in protest, he whispered, his features pained, "You can't do that to her. You just . . . can't. I won't let you. You try to hurt her and I won't hesitate to put a dagger through your chest. I swear I won't."

Christine herself felt ill and she looked up at Sky. Fear and horror were clear in her eyes. She only hoped he had a plan to get them out of this horrible situation. She was afraid and wanted him to reassure her that the monsters under the bed weren't real. That and they needed a major vacation after this nightmare.

"I'd like to see you try, little hero," Flora sneered. "So, what's the answer, hero? Serve us and make sure that never happens? Or just walk away and we have our wicked way with her?"

"Don't you try to corner me," Sky warned tightly. "What I choose to do is my choice - it's not influenced by your words." Breathing in shakily, Sky continued, "With that being said, I was stupid in coming here. It'll please you to know that I don't have a plan - that I just came running here to be a hero without giving it much forethought. And so now I have the choice between walking and saving myself or staying and saving my friend. I may have been stupid in coming here, but I am still a hero. I don't walk out on my friends. So do what you want with me - just give me your word that you won't hurt her."

Christine bowed her head, tears streaking down her face. She hadn't seen this in any of her visions and that scared her. How could Sky sacrifice himself like that? He was a prince of a powerful realm, a realm that needed him.

Flora grinned and after a brief conversation with her master, began to work her magic. The Gloomix on her "fairy" costume glowed as she drew on its power to turn the noble prince of light into a dark prince.

"Oh, Sky, why?" Christine asked softly, watching the scene with unmasked horror and disbelief. "What good will come of you sacrificing yourself to save me?" She turned her head away, unable to watch any more.

Darkar had been sitting back just watching Flora, work her magic over Sky and the seer. Darkar was more impressed than he had been before. Flora was becoming such a lovely addition to his power source. "Welcome Prince." was all that Darkar said to the transformation and the first time Darkar actually directly acknowledged Sky.

Flora found herself eagerly awaiting to see what the prince was like now that he was serving what would be the winning side. She was amused by the way the seer was reacting to Sky's change of allegience.
