As he continued his chase, Palladium finally breathed an inward sigh of relief a little while later as he caught sight of a cornered Sky. Carefully approaching the wolf, Palladium frowned as he said, "I wish I didn't have to do this, but, it's for your own good. I simply can't risk having you run out on me again." With that, he murmured a spell that soon sent the wolf sinking to the floor in a deep slumber.

"Do you want me to carry him back?" Flora asked. "I can get a vine carriage whipped up in no time." She sighed quietly, shaking her head. "I'm just glad we caught him before he got outside. Who knows what kind of trouble he could have gotten himself into."

"A vine carriage would be wonderful," Palladium said as he wearily rubbed his face, wishing that there was a quick solution to make all this right. "And yes, I think we can safely say that we avoided a potential disaster just now."

Flora closed her eyes and willed vines into existence, forming a carriage. Several vines slipped around the wolf's body and lifted him up and dropped him gently into the carriage. "Shall we get back to your office and get work started? The sooner he's back to normal, the happier we all will be."

"Indeed," Palladium said as he gave Flora a brief nod before leading the way back to the room.
-
Once back in his office, Palladium again seated himself at his desk as he resumed pouring over the notes he had been writing earlier. Frowning at his lack of progress, Palladium glanced down at his watch, his eyes widening momentarily. Turning back to Flora he said apologetically, "I didn't realize it had gotten so late - perhaps you ought to go and sleep; after all, you do have classes tomorrow."

"In all truth, Professor, I don't think I could sleep until I know if we were successful in returning him to human form. As soon as he's human again, I promise to retire for the evening and get some sleep until I have to get up for my morning classes."

"Very well then," Palladium answered as he adjusted his desk lamp so that the light shone directly on his books. "I'm not sure what else I can have you do besides to keep an eye on him and warn me if he shows any signs of coming out of his stupor . . . is that all right with you? I'm afraid it will be a rather boring task, but it will help me immensely; I think that if I don't have to worry about him, I'll be able to come up with a way to reverse the hex sooner."

"That sounds perfectly fine to me, professor," Flora said. She settled down on the ground next to the wolf and watched him, hoping he'd remain asleep until the professor finished coming up with a cure.
"Professor, I just thought of something," she said, her cheeks tinted red. "What if his clothes got destroyed when he changed...?"

Absently waving at a small closet at the back of the room, Palladium replied, not once lifting his eyes from the book he was absorbed in, "I keep a spare change of clothing in there; when one works with potions, one never knows when an unforeseen accident may occur and result in an unfortunate clothing stain. I prefer to be prepared."
Falling silent again, the only sound that filled the room was the scrawl of his pen against his paper.

Flora nodded and settled down to watch the wolf, grateful for once that she was quiet and a very patient person. She would be content to watch - and the voice of nature would alert her before she would normally pick up on his waking up.
She picked up the book she had been looking through earlier and flipped through a few pages, trying to find anything that could be of use, protection wise. Last thing they needed was Stormy to get the brilliant idea to turn Sky into a frog.

An hour later, after much furious scribbling and scratching out, Palladium finally put his pen down and leaned back briefly in his chair, allowing his head to rest against the back. Feeling utterly exhausted, Palladium whispered a silent plea that his spell would work and that this disaster of an evening would finally come to an end. As he rose to his feet, Palladium exhaled the breath that he hadn't realized that he had been holding in before he walked over to Flora and Sky. "Well, I think I might finally have something."

Flora put the book down and looked up at him. "What did you find?" she asked queitly. The wolf was still asleep but she wasn't about to take any chances in accidentally waking him up before he ought to be.

Giving Flora a ghost of a smile, Palladium replied tiredly, "I suppose we shall find out soon enough." Moving to stand in front of Sky, Palladium lifted the piece of paper that was filled front and back to his eye level and began to read, his stomach twisting at the thought of it not working.
-
". . . and thus, with this spell I will set things right; return this wolf to the man he was and give him back his human sight," Palladium said, finally finishing in his reading of the spell. Carefully folding the paper in half, his heart pounding, Palladium stared at Sky, his eyes searching out any changes to his appearance. After what felt like an eternity, Palladium's eyes pricked with interest as he was almost certain that he had noticed some movement - and there it was again. And again. No, it wasn't just his imagination; the fur was thinning and the tail was shortening . . . and it had worked; thank the gods, it had actually worked.

Flora breathed a sigh of relief. "You know, we really should think about giving him some form of a protection spell. All this dark magic that's been used on him can not be a good thing."

"You're right about that," Palladium said as he walked back over to his desk and pulled an afghan from off his chair. Moving back over to Sky's side, Palladium tossed it over his body just in case Flora was right and he did end up returning to his human form in the nude. "Dealing with all this magic has undoubtedly put much strain on his body; after all, Sky, as a specialist, lacks the magic fairies and witches have and thus, his body is not as well-equipped as yours or mine to handle being spelled. I truly fear for his health."
