: Ribestaus stroked his wife's long golden hair and pulled her closer to him. "Athène," he whispered quietly. "Hard to believe we've been married for a year now." : Athène snuggled closer, content to lie in her husband's arms. "Hm..." she answered absently. "At least my father, the king, hasn't come after you and accused you of not only kidnapping me but forcing me into marriage with you." She twirled a lock of crimson hair around her hand. "What would you do then, my mighty sorceror?" : Ribestaus tilted his head in thought. "Hm.. probably lay a powerful curse on your family, why?" : "Just curious, my love," she said quietly, nipping his neck affectionately and snuggling down as she drifted off to sleep. : Ribestaus said nothing after that, just settled down to rest with his young wife in his arms. He made a vow that if the king were to rob him of his wife - he would make the king and all his male heirs pay.

Two years later: : Athène was working in the garden when her father appeared on horseback. She turned and ran for the cottage she shared with her husband. She was not going back to the castle - not now, not ever. She froze and looked down at the blossoming rose on her stomach, the arrow having gone through her back and poked out her stomach. She turned and looked up at her father, a look of sheer confusion etched on her features. She dropped to the ground, just as her husband was coming out. : Ribestaus's eyes hardened. "A curse upon your house, oh mighty king. As you have robbed me of my wife, I shall rob your male heirs of their humanity. Glory, power, greed have made a beast of thee. So from dusk to dawn thou shalt prowl the night in shape and nature of a beast until a woman's pure love sets thee free."
