Christine held her head high, carrying herself with a far more regal grace then her yearmates remembered her to have. Her voice had softened but her temper remained just as sharp - much to the amazement of some unfortunate student who made a crass comment about her and Sky and the dorming arrangements. Her long hair was pulled into a loose ponytail, her colored locks glistening when the light hit them in just the right way.
She brushed her bangs off her forehead and gave a soft content sigh. The aftermath of the coronation ceremony - although it had been an emotional nightmare - freed her a bit. She was no longer as devoted to Sky as she had been and had regained some of her old fire. True, she still loved him, but there was a more mature feel to it. Perhaps, all along she loved the idea of loving Sky and not really loving him - but no, her heart told her otherwise. But if he wasn't interested, well, there were others who were and she had no problems allowing them to get close - if only to see if Sky got jealous.
She bent down and picked up one of her books - one on govermental policy for several different worlds, how best one should deal with planets like Eraklyon, Chalcedony, and Andros. She was focused on her book so she didn't hear the familiar footsteps of the remainder of their shattered team. Her eyes glanced up from the page at the sound of someone clearing their throat.
"That doesn't sound good," she answered simply. "Perhaps if you made a mix of honey, tea, and lemon, that might just help your throat." She glanced up and over the edge of her book to see her team leader, standing before her. She lowered her book. "Forgive me for not rising to greet you but I have several books on my lap, that and Lady decided she was going to put her head on my lap and fall asleep," she said, indicating the golden dog.

Whistling softly to get Lady's attention, Sky smiled as she immediately awoke and ran to his side, her tail wagging ferociously as she waited to have her back scratched. As he squatted down to give her the attention she wanted, Sky distracted replied, "No need to get up - I was just passing through."

Christine gave him a brief 'hmhn' in response. Calm, cool and collected - that was how she was going to act. She wasn't going to show Sky that he had hurt her greatly by rejecting her.
"Oh, Sky, on your next trip to Eraklyon, could you ask your father if he could let me borrow a copy of the trade agreement he has between your realm and mine? Father misplaced ours and I'd like to see what the agreement was about."
Let's see how the prince reacted to the aloof queen and not his devoted fairy princess.

Pausing for a moment, Sky stared at Christine before he nodded hesitantly and answered, "Sure, I'll ask. Although . . ." at this he trailed off as though he wasn't certain if he should continue. Waiting a few seconds more, he then frowned slightly and said, "Although, since you're technically queen of your realm now, you should be the one conducting business with my father."

"True, you raise a fine point, however, I have no true reason to travel to Eraklyon at this point besides for picking up a copy of the trade agreement and you know exactly how well I tolerate travel spells. The less I have to expose myself to them, the better for me. I don't think I need to remind you of how well I fared when I went to attend that dinner with your parents," she answered calmly.
"Therefore, if I continue my train of thought and follow the path of my logic, then asking you who has no true problems using travel spells to retrieve the manuscript for me, I should be quite fine."

Knowing that Christine was purposely acting standoffish - probably because of the abrupt way in which he had left her coronation ceremony - Sky relented, deciding that the least he could do was to not make a mountain over something as trivial as a document. Rising to his feet, Lady now resting contentedly on the floor near him, Sky nodded again and said, "All right, I'll see what I can do."

"Thank you," she said calmly, her blue eyes twinkling. "Oh, and by the way," she said, glancing at him. "You might want to talk to the new student, Daniel. He had implied that because we shared the same dorm lounge that we shared a few other places and pieces of furniture if you get my drift."

Rolling his eyes, Sky muttered under his breath to himself, "Great. Just great. More rumors. More things for the tabloids to write about. What a load of nonsense." Absently running his hand over the back of his neck, Sky frowned. He was tired of dealing with all the gossip about his life. Because each time that people had whispered things about him behind his back, that the papers had written sensational stories about everything from his supposedly being married to not being his father's son, he had always gotten angry. He had always let them get under his skin - and what good had that done? None. It had only caused him stress, and hurt and he was sick of it. Yes, it was true - people were always going to talk. They were always going to tell lies and twisted truths and there wasn't a thing he could do to stop them. But he didn't always have to listen. He could just shut his ears to it all - could make it all just disappear. That was what he was going to do starting right then and there.
Abruptly pulling himself back to the present moment, Sky replied pensively, "Anyone who knows me - knows you - knows that that isn't true. But as for the people who actually buy into that sordid gossip, it's no skin off my nose. I know the truth and you know what, I've decided that that's got to be good enough because people are always going to talk. So I'm done listening because I have more important things to concern myself with."

"So why not do something productive and sue the tabloids for slander," she said arching a delicate brow and looking at him. "That should give them the hint that any further action on their part will be met with legal action on yours."

Sky shrugged as he said, "It's not worth my time; I mean, sure, you can sue once and then they'll let up for a bit but before you know it, they're right back at it. The thing about tabloids is that there are so many of them and they're constantly putting out new issues that it's too much for any law enforcement agency to keep a close eye on their activities. And frankly, it seems kind of silly to waste a court's time with something as trivial as complaints about tabloid articles when there are many more pressing issues that need to be dealt with instead."

"Tell that to the so called royalty known as the Hollywood stars and starlets on Earth. They'd sue at a drop of the hat and probably because the hat was dropped," Christine said quietly. She debated telling him what a few other students had chimed into Daniel's comment but decided to let that sleeping dog lie.
She picked up her book again and glanced over the edge at him.

Assuming that Christine's lifted book meant that she was done talking, Sky shoved his hands in his pockets and then called cheerfully to Lady, "Come on, girl; come on. Want to go for a walk?" A genuine smile flitting across his face as Lady leapt up, her front paws landing squarely against his chest, nearly knocking him off his feet, Sky laughed heartily. "I take that as a yes."

Christine settled down to read, watching Sky's interaction with Lady with veiled amusement. He was cute when he was dealing with that dog.

Pulling Lady's leash out of his jacket pocket, Sky teasingly dangled it in front of her nose before he leaned down and snapped it onto her collar. As Lady tugged against the restraint, Sky chuckled as he patted her head. "I know, girl - I hate the leash too. If I had it my way, I'd let you wander around without it, but Saladin's warned me that some of the students are complaining about you sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. So it's either a leash or no you, and I wouldn't want to have to send you home, girl."
At this Lady cocked her head to the side - as though she really understood what he was saying - before she tugged again at the leash, clearly wanting to go outside.
Sky grinned and then said, "All right, all right - we're going. The forest, it is." As he guided Lady away, Sky paused and then said, glancing back over his shoulder, "Later, Chris."

"Later," she answered. She tilted her head and laughed quietly. "Oh, and Sky. Checkmate," she said. She didn't care if he didn't understand her reference for saying Checkmate, but it kept her entertained.
