Every part of his body was throbbing and screaming out that he stop, but still Sky persisted, his long legs pounding against the ground as his strides lengthened and the blood rushed to his head. His encounter with Riven a few hours earlier had been just the jolt he needed to start pulling his act together and this was the first step. He used to love going for solo runs in the forest and he figured that this was as good of a place to start making changes in his life as any.
Perspiration rolling down his temples, plastering his hair to his forehead, Sky lifted his bottle of water to his parched lips and took a long gulp, still running all the while. It hurt like hell - he must have been running for nearly two hours already - but he wasn't going to stop. Two hours used to be nothing to him but with the way he had slacked off with training, Sky found that right now it was much more difficult than he remembered. But that was no big deal because in a week or so, he'd have whipped himself right back to where he had been. Two or three hours of running everyday combined with a session of dragon wrangling and a high carb diet was exactly what he needed.
Yep. He was back. He may have become the butt of many a joke to the rest of the Specialists, but those days were over. He was Prince Sky and he was no golden boy. He wanted his peers' respect back and he was going to work like hell to get it - wasn't going to stop until he did so.
Riven had put a bad taste in his mouth, but it had been just what he needed after all.
