OOC: post Demetrius's return to Eraklyon : Aurelie sat in a chair, her eyes gazing up at the ceiling before she lowered them to focus on the man in front of her. "Well?" she asked softly, slowly rising to walk over to him. "Is it true, that the Lady of Lovelylocks, the future ruler of that realm, was nearly strangled to death in our home?" She wordlessly stood before him before shaking her head. "It makes no sense - the queen has all but said that the girl isn't right for the prince so the elf shouldn't have targetted her unless there's something to this that the royal family isn't telling us." It was not the first time that Aurelie questioned the policies of the royal family, nor would it be the last. She'd probably only stop questioning them the minute Sky (who seemed to understand the people better then his parents) took the throne - either that or he finally put his foot down and told his parents what he thought of how they treated the ones special to him.

Unlike Aurelie, Demetrius possessed a fierce loyalty to the king and queen; and so when he heard her speak critically of her ladyship, he shot her a warning look as he said, "I enjoy your company, Aurelie, but I would watch your words if I were you or else you may find yourself without work - here or anywhere else - in the future." Pausing for a moment to let his words sink in, he continued, "And what makes you so certain that Their Majesties are hiding something? Did it ever cross your mind that maybe they're just as lost as the next person? They may be the king and queen but they're still human; god, from the way you speak you make it seem like Her Majesty is purposefully trying to hurt her son."

: "I apologize," she said quietly. "It's just... There's something so terrifying about this, Demetrius. I'm just afraid. And, that poor girl... It makes no sense." She shook her head slightly. "She sat and just watched out the window the day after the prince's curse was pronounced. She refused to return to bed - she wanted to watch and see if she could see him. I have a feeling that if she hadn't given her word, she would have been out there with him. I've never seen such devotion before," she added softly.

With a dry smile, Demetrius replied, "Well, perhaps if she is so devoted to the prince, she can join the royal guard in the future. Hell, perhaps someday she can take my position." Knowing that Aurelie probably wouldn't appreciate his humor, something that he had developed long ago to help him cope with difficult situations, Demetrius drifted off into silence for a long moment. Some time later, he continued, "But you're right; Christine is a very sweet chit and she obviously cares for Sky a great deal, but I don't know . . . Their Majesties don't approve of her so . . . that should be the end of that. It'd be different if Sky wasn't the prince and all but he is who he is and he's got to abide by a different set of rules than any old person. I know this Christine wants to help him, and for a while I thought that was a good thing, but I just can't see this thing with her bringing Sky anything but heartache in the future. Lord knows he doesn't need anymore of that."

: "But what if that's the key? Her love for him? Do we just tell him to throw away what could be the answer, the thing that could break the curse? I don't know about you, but I don't think I could bring myself to do that to him."

Demetrius shrugged as he rose to his feet, feeling uncomfortable with the way the conversation seemed to be heading. Crossing his arms over his chest, he replied, "That isn't my call, nor is it yours, to make. I'm only a guard and you're only a lady in waiting; as far as I'm concerned, we shouldn't even be talking about this. So I've said all I'm going to say; my loyalty is to the king and the queen - whatever they say goes. But let me just say this, in my nineteen years of service to them - which is about half of my life - they've been wise and just and have ruled in a manner that has allowed Eraklyon to thrive; that's why I have faith in their decision even without knowing what it is."

: "Forgive me," she repeated, her hand drifting to her stomach absently. "I just haven't really been feeling well and have been so incredibly moody as of late. I'm sure several of the younger maids are going to tell you horror stories about how I threw my hair brush at one." She laughed quietly.

Demetrius frowned as he replied in concern, "Is it something serious, do you think? Perhaps you ought to see a doctor . . ."

: Aurelie paused and thought. "You know, I think I better," she said softly. "Because I have this gut feeling that I'll be feeling this way for several more months." She blushed slightly.

Demetrius's brow furrowed slightly as he asked, "You don't mean to tell me that you think you're . . ."

: "That's exactly what I'm implying," Aurelie said, still blushing. "I, ah... Somehow, I don't think her majesty will be happy..." She winced. There was no doubt in her mind that the queen might be angry that one of her ladies in waiting was going to have an out of wedlock child.

Staring at Aurelie for a long hard moment, Demetrius finally replied, "No, you're right . . . Her Majesty will most certainly not approve and will probably remove you from your position . . ." Trailing off, he sighed inwardly. There was no way around it; if Aurelie did in fact turn out to be pregnant, she was going to be in a difficult situation. She'd probably end up without work and without a way to support herself and her child; it was a grim future. Feeling terrible for his friend, Demetrius finally asked, "Well, do you at least know who the father will be? Is he willing to help you through this?"

: "I don't know," she started, staring up at him. "Are you?"

"Am I what?" Demetrius asked before a look of understanding slowly dawned across his face. Sinking down into his chair, feeling as though someone had punched him in the stomach, a wave of shock coursed through his body as he shook his head and whispered under his breath in a stunned voice, "No . . . no . . . this can't be right . . . it just . . . can't. Oh god. Oh god. Philomena. What have I done?"

: "Besides being a willing partner?" she asked blandly. "Look, we don't have to tell anyone. When it gets closer to my time, figure sixth month or so, I'll just pack my bags and leave." She let out a tired sigh. "You can send a small check every two months."
