OOC: happens during in the same time frame as "A dinner from hell" (possibly much later that evening)
Christine slept quietly, trying to recover from the excitement from earlier. She yawned softly and snuggled deeply into the comfort of the bed. At least the bed was welcoming, too bad the house wasn't.
The only request she had was that they left the window open. She had always slept with a window open - just to get the fresh air. It was a simple quirk of hers, and one that her teams usually indulged. And she was forever grateful that Sky had put his foot down for her in that matter.
Odd, she thought she had taken her necklace off before she went to bed so it wouldn't get tangled in her sheets. So why was there a tightness around her neck? She opened her eyes to see an unfamiliar male with red hair perched on her bed, his hands around her throat. Her blue eyes widened - okay, did his parents hate her that much?
Now how was she going to get out of this predicament? Screaming was out of the question since he was trying to strangle her. Breaking something wouldn't endear herself to Sky's family - even if it did save her life by having someone come running...

Climbing the rather ornate staircase, Alice lightly slid one hand along the smooth banister as she used her other one to hold up the hem of her lavender gown. It had been a couple hours since Dr. Witherspoon had left Sky's female friend's bedside and told them that she simply needed some rest; and now, for some reason that she did not quite understand, she was making her way up to check on the girl. True, she had volunteered herself considering that it wouldn't really be proper for the king or the prince to do so themselves and though it had seemed like a good idea at the time, as she climbed the stairs, Alice began to have her doubts; she simply didn't have a clue what she ought to say to the girl. While normally she was a good conversationalist, on this particular evening she had met her match. Everything had been too awkward and uncomfortable and now it was probably only going to grow even more so.
As she came to a stop outside Christine's door, Alice lightly tapped at the door before she gently pushed it open. The sight that greeted her, however, stopped her dead in her tracks. Christine was in bed all right . . . but . . . what was that on top of her?! As Alice suddenly realized that that thing, whatever it was, was trying to choke the girl, she fought down the wave of panic that was threatening to overtake her. Knowing that there wasn't time to run downstairs to get help, Alice narrowed her eyes and forced herself to transform; whatever this thing was, she would have to fight him off herself. "Hey you!" she called out, in hopes of getting its attention, as she launched several daggers of ice at his back.

Christine could see the blackness at the corners of her vision and was struggling to breath when suddenly she was able to breath. She lay there, gasping for air, and trying to figure out who she angered to have that happened.

Alice rushed to Christine's side as she asked, her voice shaking, "Are you okay?" Swallowing hard and fighting to keep the cold shiver of fear running down her spine from completely overtaking her, Alice glanced at the open window through which the creature had made his escape after she had tried to attack him. "I don't know what that was but I think it's gone . . . for now."

Christine massaged her throat and sat up slowly, still gasping a little for air. In a very soft, very weak voice, she managed to get out, "I think so." She wondered how she was going to explain this to Sky - that someone had broken into her room and tried to strangle her in her sleep. His parents didn't hate her that much, did they?

"Perhaps we should close the window? You know, just in case . . ." Alice trailed off, deciding it was probably best to allow the rest of her words to remain unspoken. As she crossed the room and pulled the window closed and locked it with a firm click, Alice then said, "Now that that is settled, I should probably go bring someone else up here to check around for any clues as to who, or should I say, what, that could possibly be - because whatever it was, I don't think it was, well, human." With a shaky laugh, Alice said trying to sound brave, "But it wouldn't be so daring as to try to come back again. I'm sure of it . . . but maybe you ought to come downstairs with me anyway if you can manage it. Because it's better not to take any chances, right?"

Christine nodded, not trusting her voice since the incident had left her throat very tender. She rose slowly from her bed, her long white gown clinging to her lithe frame. She pulled an ivory bathrobe over her nightgown and slipped on a pair of white slippers. She silently followed Alice out of the room, and headed back downstairs. A warm cup of cocoa would be most welcome.
And maybe, just maybe, Sky would be there and could shed light into this mystery.

As they descended the winding staircase and rejoined Sky and his parents, Alice, seeing their confusion as to why Christine was with her, bit her lip as she began, "I don't think there's an easy way to say this, but I think you all have some sort of . . . prowler. Actually, I don't know if that was what it was, but when I went to check on Lady Strongheart there was something on her bed that was trying to strangle her. I tried to attack it, but it was too fast and it escaped through the open window. I'm sorry that I didn't get a good look at it - well, besides that it had red hair, but maybe," at this Alice turned to look at Christine, "you can give us a better description?"

Christine rubbed her throat. "It was an elf, with red hair. Male," she said quietly, her voice still hoarse and barely there. "For some reason he wanted me dead," she added. She glanced up at Sky and gave him a slight tilt to her head, her code for 'forcing a vision later'.

At Christine's signal indicating that she was going to make herself have a vision later, Sky shook his head almost imperceptibly. After tonight's episode, she was obviously in no condition to travel, let alone force a vision. It would put too much strain and stress on her body and who knew what disastrous results that could have? At this news, Aldrich frowned as he echoed in disbelief, "An elf? An elf is our prowler? What could we possibly have that an elf would want?" To himself, he muttered under his breath as he tried to make sense of what he was being told, "True, we have many valuables, but since when are elves concerned with material goods? They aren't. They simply aren't. This is utterly preposterous."

Christine just gave Sky a faint nod and a lowering of her gaze, a simple sign that she was giving into him, and not fighting him, as he normally would have expected her to. 'Perhaps, it isn't a material possession he was after,' Christine thought to herself. 'After all, I'm no possession of Eraklyon and he was after me, with the intent to kill.' She rubbed her throat again, feeling a sudden overwhelming wave of fear, and then the sudden embarrassment when she realized that she was the one afraid.

As Riannon rigidly listened to the news, her nerves entirely shot, she shook her head emphatically as she said, moving to stand next to Sky, "You have to leave at once, darling; I don't want you here if we have something like this going on." Silencing his protests with a stern look, she continued, "You have had enough trouble in your life recently and I will not have you be a part of this. Besides, you aren't needed here." Forcing herself to sound confident, Riannon said, "I am certain this is something your father and the royal guard can handle without too much difficulty. Now, as your mother, I insist that you leave and take Lady Winfield with you; make sure that she returns to Alfea safely and then I want you and Christine to proceed directly to Red Fountain. Understand?" Gritting his teeth at being ordered around by his mother, Sky felt the urge to tell her no, he would not just leave, that she didn't have the right to make that decision for him. But grudgingly, he had to admit that she had a point; whatever this was about, Christine had been attacked and it was better to put as much distance them and this elf as possible. If only for her safety. Glancing at Christine, Sky could see that she was clearly shaken and afraid; and as much as he didn't want to leave until he knew what exactly was going on, he also knew that the only way Christine would feel safe was for her to be back in her room at Red Fountain. Far, far away from Eraklyon. With a sigh, Sky finally nodded his head and replied, "We will leave at once."

Christine wanted to protest but she didn't have the strength to protest. Just no strength. She just wish she understood why she was attacked. A faint whisp of a vision danced at the corners of her mind, but she had no desire to chase after whisps and traces of visions. Save that for when she was stronger. But one thing was clear - the name of the elf. It was on the tip of her tongue, but she didn't feel it her place to bring it up.

: "Leaving so soon?" a male voice called out from the shadows. "Why, we were only just getting acquainted." He stepped forth from the shadows and smiled a dark smile at the royal family and guests. "I will get vegenence for Athène if it's the last thing I do. Watch your maiden well, for she may never see another night if I have my way, princeling." With that omnious warning, he vanished.

Christine stiffened when the elf appeared out of the shadows. Her eyes were wide and full of fear. Who was Athène and why was the elf angry with the royal family? She glanced over at Sky - trying gauge how he reacted to the elf's threat.
"That was him," she whispered, still afraid. She wished Sky would just come over to her and hold her, regardless of how his parents felt about her. She needed to feel safe - and she always felt safe with him holding her.
Although... there was something different about Sky. She just couldn't figure out what...
