NPC status: lady in waiting in the castle: Aurelie : Aurelie silently made her way down the stairs and into one of the long forgotten libraries. Dust covered every exposed surface. She was careful to pick up her long coral satin dress so it didn't get covered with dust as she walked over the dusty floor. There - on the book shelf. The book she had been reading for several days now. The king and queen didn't know of its existence... yet. It had been written centuries ago by an old elfin spell caster, Ribestaus Gemtouch. Supposedly, one of the originators of the current royal family did something that angered the elf and he lay a powerful curse on the family. Aurelie rolled her amethyst colored eyes and ran a hand through her satiny chocolate-brown hair. Honestly. Besides, the incantation was ridiculous. Thy family brings this curse on thee. Glory, power, greed have made a beast of thee. So from dusk to dawn thou shalt prowl the night in shape and nature of a beast until a woman's pure love sets thee free. Still... it did explain what happened to the prince.... Could his curse, the bite of the werewolf all those years ago, have been the result of this curse coming to fruition? Bother. That meant she was going to have to tell the king and queen about her secret library. And she liked this place being her secret. Hm... Maybe there was a way to keep her library a secret still. Hm... maybe it was time to call in an old favor that Demetrius owed her...

: Aurelie made her way out of the library and headed for the guard house where Demetrius was living. She hated to do this but after awarding him with many nights of female companionship (and if she had to play another game of chess with him, she was going to stab someone's eyes out with her knitting needles. Honestly, she wasn't that bad looking and it wasn't as if his wife would find out about her), she felt it was only fair that she called him out on a favor. Besides, all she was going to do was ask him to give the king the book, which had a bookmark in the right spot, and say he found it some place other than "her" library. That way she could continue to sneak off to read and not be disturbed. Besides, the king didn't think she had a brain so her handing him the book wouldn't work. Honestly, just because she knew when to simper and make a good show of being a prim and proper lady in waiting for his wife didn't mean that she was entirely without a brain. She had done well on all her exams and it was only a twist of fate that caused her to land this post. She knocked on the door just the way he taught her so he'd know it was her, and then slipped in. "Oh, Demetrius," she cooed gently. "I have a favor to ask of you..."

Hearing the sound of a familiar voice at his chamber door, Demetrius laid the sword he had been using to brush up on his old fighting techniques down on his bed. Pulling a tunic on over his head, Demetrius tiredly ran a hand through his black hair. It had been a long day and all he wanted to do now was sit down with a glass of wine and relax. Alone. Tonight he wasn't in the mood for Aurelie's company - no matter how beautiful she was. Tonight he just needed to think. He was growing older - forty felt as though it was approaching far too quickly - and as much as he hated to admit it, he was slowing down. He was feeling more cumbersome than usual and he swore that it couldn't just be his imagination . . . he was getting slower on his feet. Slower to react. It would probably only be a matter of months - a year or two if he was lucky - before he would be replaced as head royal bodyguard. For as much as he was devoted to King Aldrich and his family, they couldn't afford to have an old man in charge of protecting them. Wryly, Demetrius glanced over at the sword on his bed. Who was he kidding? No matter how much he practiced with it, even if he did it for hours every night after he got off duty, he would never recapture the agility from his youth. He might as well come to terms with it - he was virtually an old man. Opening the door to his room, Demetrius automatically stepped aside to let Aurelie in. Though he didn't want company, it wouldn't be polite to turn her away - not when she obviously was here for a purpose. As the slim woman entered, Demetrius moved to close the door behind her to keep peeping servants from talking. Finally, Demetrius turned to Aurelie and formally acknowledged her presence with a slight bow. Gesturing to his small bar, he asked, trying to keep his voice jovial despite the thoughts weighing down on his mind, "Care for a drink, m'lady?"

: Aurelie smiled but shook her head. "No, thank you," she said quietly. "I was wondering if you could help me with a small problem," she continued. She pulled the book out from behind her. "I found this book in a library in the lower levels." She flipped open the book to the page with the curse on it. "It was written centuries upon centuries ago. Around the time of the founders of the royal family. I was wondering... the prince's condition," she paused. "Could it be because of this curse?"

As he read over the passage, Demetrius whistled softly under his breath. After a few moments more, he looked up, his eyes meeting those of Aurelie. Nodding slightly, Demetrius replied, "It sure as hell looks that way to me, except . . ." at this, Demetrius rubbed his chin thoughtfully, "do you think that it might be too obvious?" Shaking his head, he continued with a slight frown, "However, I'm no magic expert, Aurelie - so there's really no point in asking me about this kind of stuff." Raising a brow, he prodded, "That being said, why exactly are you asking me about this? Forgive me, but I'm a bit confused as to what you want me to do."

: Aurelie sighed. "My problem is.. the king doesn't view me as a woman with a brain. Because I have to simper and pretend to be a brainless lady in waiting for the queen, he doesn't believe I can think. With that in mind, me handing him the book would be treated as a joke." She sighed again and looked at him. "That's why I brought the book to you. I figured, maybe if you gave it to him... maybe he'd actually read it and order research done to see if it is true." She lowered her eyes. "That's all I came to ask you about..."

Demetrius rubbed the back of his neck as he thought over Aurelie's proposition. While it was true that King Aldrich would never take her seriously, it wasn't as though he had any power to influence the king either. And even though Demetrius knew that he was the closest person to the king apart from Queen Riannon and Prince Sky, that didn't mean that he necessarily appreciated a lowly guard telling him what to do. Still, Aurelie might be on to something and if she was, surely the king had the right to know about it; after all, it was for the sake of his son and not some other trivial matter. After a moment more, Demetrius gave a heavy sigh as he nodded in response. "I suppose I can do that - but I'm not making any promises that King Aldrich will take me much more seriously than yourself."

: Aurelie smiled and gave him a hug. "Thank you, Demetrius," she said quietly, giving him one of her rare true smiles. Her eyes drifted to the chess board. "Fancy a game of chess?" It was the least she could do. Hm.. Maybe they could turn into an adult game. Oh, yes, maybe tonight she'd be lucky... if she got him drunk enough.
