It was dawn, and that meant she had successfully slept through the night - thankfully the headmistress had been so understanding and allowed Brandon to stay with her since that kept the nightmares at bay. She sat up slowly and stretched, arching her back in a very feline way when she felt something, something very strange.
She stood up slowly, padding silently into the shared bathroom that connected to Stella's room. Somehow, someone had thought it would be a good idea to put the hybrids next to Stella - mainly since Stella had found them, unaware of exactly who or what the pair of hybrids meant now to the fairy of the sun and the moon.
It was her reflection that caused Angelique to admit a shrill scream, awakening all those near her. Her hands quickly shot to her head, feeling for ears that were no longer there. Her eyes still were cat like - but...
Quickly she glanced down and behind. No tail, no trace of fur on her arms or legs. Her claws were gone and so were those whisker spots on her face.
She sat down hard, on the floor, for once glad that she no longer had the tail because she somehow knew that it was going to hurt.

Hearing a shriek Brandon bolted awake instantly looking for Angel. When he found he headed for the shriek, wondering if it was Angel that screamed. Entering the bathroom, Brandon blinked trying to get his eyes to adjust to the lights. "What's wrong?" Brandon asked, knowing that it was Angel but not knowing what was wrong.

Angelique looked up at Brandon, and blushed a rich crimson at seeing him in his human state. "We're human," she breathed.

"Huh?" Brandon said, not really understanding what she was getting at. They were human? The doctor had said that it was a permanent change. Looking at his hands Brandon did see a change. "But the doctor told us..."

"Looks like the doctor didn't count on anyone ever escaping and therefore not getting the serum or whatever it was," Angelique said quietly. Then she realized something and drooped. "I suppose I should go... After all, you have that princess to get back to..." Her gaze was focused solely on the floor that she didn't notice Brandon approaching her.

Beneath the thick comforter of her bed, Stella's slender body tossed and turned as she slept fitfully, a steady trickle of tears slipping down her cheeks. It had been this way ever since she had found out from Professor Palladium that there was nothing that could be done to help Brandon besides to simply wait. At least when she hadn't known that, had still believed that she could find a magic potion to cure him if she just studied and searched hard and long enough, Stella had managed to stay strong, but now...now she was a wreck through and through. Waiting. Waiting for something that might never come. It was torture.
Bloom's return had provided her some comfort, had managed to distract her and to lift her spirits, but at night, even her friend couldn't help her. At night, even with Brandon in the next room, it was like she was alone. Brandon didn't remember her, and worse, thought that he was falling for Angelique, and that knowledge killed her. She wanted to take him by the shoulders and shake him and to tell him everything that was in her heart, but she couldn't. She loved him too much to do that. She loved him too much to cause him that kind of mental stress - god knew that he was under enough of it as it was.
And so she had to wait. Wait and pray that in the end, their love would prevail. That when he was returned to his human form that he indeed would have his memories again and that he would take her into his arms and wipe her tears away and to tell her that he loved her more than anything else in the world.
As these thoughts penetrated Stella's sleep, a sudden scream jolted her awake, causing the blonde to let out a shriek of her own as she fell from her bed. Landing with a soft thump on her thickly carpeted floor (something she was very grateful for at that moment), Stella then leapt to her feet as she quickly pulled a robe on over her nightdress. Hurrying out of her room to follow where the sound had come from, Stella's eyes immediately zoned in on the sliver of light that radiated from where the bathroom door was opened slightly. Not hesitating for a moment as a thousand thoughts rushed through her mind, the main one being that was someone was hurt and needed help, Stella pushed the door open and, at the sight that greeted her, staggered backward in shock.
Brandon.
As what she was seeing before her registered in her mind, Stella suddenly let out an overjoyed scream as she launched herself against him, her arms wrapped tightly around his neck. After a long moment, Stella pulled back slightly as she took his handsome face between her hands and asked, her voice unashamedly pleading, "Oh, cupcake, do...do you remember me?"

When Stella latched on to him, Brandon staggered back a little, his mind was still trying to comprehend that he was human again. His memories were rapidly coming back and were confusing him as he had no idea what most of them were. The cupcake that Stella had called him was resounding though his head, it sounded so familiar to be called that. But Brandon found all the memories screaming back to be to much for him to handle and he clutched his head trying to remain standing through the onslaught.

Angelique closed her blue eyes and tried to keep from crying. Seeing that she was failing, she silently padded out of the room, obviously not needed there. Maybe she could find a way to go home. She had no place in his life - not anymore.

At the reaction she received from Brandon, Stella dropped her hands from around his face and took an uncertain step backward. Biting her lip, a million emotions coursing through her veins, Stella fought to restrain herself. Though she desired nothing more than to throw herself into his arms once again, the look on his face made her question the sagacity of such a decision. Clearly, he was fighting to keep his wits about him and the last thing Stella wanted to do was to send him over the edge by giving him a dose of emotional overload.
As the moments ticked by, Stella fidgeted as she waited for Brandon to say something - anything - to her. She just wanted to hear his voice, to hear him say that he remembered, and after another moment, Stella couldn't resist any longer as she asked, albeit tentatively, "Brandon...do you remember what happened to you?" Another pause. Then, reaching forward, Stella gently grasped one of his hands, lovingly linking his fingers with hers as she continued, her eyes searching his, "If you don't, it's all right. I just want you to know that I'm here. Whatever you need, I'm here for you."

Angelique paused as she got to the door, turning to watch the pair with sad sapphire blue eyes. They had forgotten she was there. Nothing new. Everyone forgot her. The only hope she had was that when she left, that the doctor didn't find her again. She didn't want to go back. And she just wanted to go home..

"Do I remember?" Brandon muttered as he went through his thoughts trying to sort things though. "Some, most of it is still to confusing." Brandon admitted, looking down at their joined hands. It felt right but at the same time it was odd and what was causing the oddness was unnameable. Looking from their entwined hands to Stella's face to around the bathroom, Brandon noticed a certain little kitten missing. "Angel?"

"Over here," came her voice - a voice lacking the life that Brandon would associate with it. She took a step away from the door and looked at him - the picture of a broken doll. "I was just going to go. I'm not needed..."

So this was what a breaking heart felt like, Stella thought dully as she stared down at her and Brandon's entwined hands. Because even though they were physically touching, mentally, it was like they were thousands of miles apart. One moment it was euphoria and the next, it was as though someone had twisted a knife into her chest, had jerked out her heart and put it on the butcher's block to be sliced into bits and pieces. Because it wasn't her name that had been on his lips. It wasn't her that he was worried about. It wasn't her that he was missing.
It was 'Angel.'
Feeling sick to her stomach, Stella dragged her eyes from the blinding white tile floor to Brandon's face. He was so handsome, so wonderfully good. He was everything she needed and he was all that she wanted and the thought that she in turn wasn't those things to him was unbearable. The thought that Brandon might find true happiness - love - with someone else was unbearable.
Closing her eyes briefly against the onslaught of pain that had begun to wrack her slender frame, Stella then straightened her shoulders and squared her jaw. No matter what happened, no matter if Brandon felt something for Angelique, she was still Stella, Princess of Solaria and she would come out on top. She would fight and persevere and she would get her happy ending. She wasn't a pushover and she wasn't just about to sit by and let the best person she had ever known waltz out of her life. Somehow, she would make Brandon remember that it was she who he really loved. And somehow, she would make him remember just how much she loved him. He would see it, would know that she would stick by him unconditionally, and this - what this was with Angelique would go away. It would.
It had to.

"Angel, come here. I made you a promise, that much I still remember. I'm not going back on that promise just because we're finally free from the doctor." Brandon said with a weak smile, there was still so much that he didn't remember but what he did remember Brandon had every intention of keeping true to it.

Angelique silently made her way over and stood before him. There was such a heavy sadness in the way she stood, it was almost crushing her underneath the weight. She knew she had lost something - something undefined.
