OOC: Immediately follows the "Even a man who's pure of heart..." thread
As they entered the dragon pens to visit Parn, Sky announced, determined to treat Christine in a way that made her remember that they were just friends and teammates now and nothing more, "Well, here we are. Same as you remembered?"
Making sure not to walk too close to her, Sky continued, "Parn's done some growing since you last saw him, so he's been moved to a different pen." Pointing to one a few feet away, he finished, "He's in there."

Christine approached her baby slowly. "Hey Parn sweetie," she cooed and settled down on the ground opposite him. "My, you've gotten so big. You look wonderful." Her blue eyes twinkled with delight as she talked to her dragon. "Did the boys treat you nicely?"
She blinked slightly as a female approached Parn and started to nuzzle. "Sky, who's dragon is that?" she asked, gesturing to the dragon with Parn. This could get awkward if it was his baby girl.

"You didn't know?" Sky inquired, his brow furrowed. "Codatorta decided that he wants to breed Parn in the future - that there female is his mate. They're sharing the same pen so that they can warm up to each other." Pausing for a moment, he asked again, "So you really didn't know? Funny. I thought that Codatorta would have discussed it with you for sure."

"I wouldn't have asked if I had known," Christine said, trying her hardest not to roll her eyes. "So, who's baby is she? I know Parn's mine but she's..." She paused. "She isn't yours, is she?"

"No," Sky replied with a slight grimace. "I'm pretty sure she was supposed to be Riven's but . . ." Sky trailed off, his features growing tense. Right now the last thing he wanted was to get into another discussion about their former teammate.

"Oh," was the only answer she gave. She quietly climbed into the pen and ran her hands over Parn's scales. "Well, since his name's Parn, I'm naming her Deedlit. Match set," she said. One of the neat things she learned from the Magic Realm was how to talk to dragons so she spoke to the pair quietly, and laughed.
"Hey, Sky, tell Cordatorta that they've warmed up all right. Deed says that she'll be ready to breed next month."

Feeling slightly uncomfortable with how close Parn and Deed were getting, Sky replied, "Well, uh, since they're both your dragons now, you ought to be in charge of all that breeding stuff." With a short laugh he added, "And don't even try the 'but you'll see Codatorta before I do' line. I have a feeling that you'll be back in class with him before too much longer so you can just discuss this stuff with him then."

"All right," she said quietly. Her eyes glanced about and her breath drew in a sharp gasp. One of the females was nursing a hatching that resembled Breog.
"Sky... please tell me I'm imagining things..."

Having walked a few feet away from Christine, Parn, and Deed to go visit one of his favorite full-grown dragons, Tempest, Sky called back over his shoulder, "What are you talking about?"

She walked over to the baby and picked it up. "This looks like Breog..." her voice trembled. "I must be seeing things, right?" She couldn't stand to be reminded of that time. She had been so helpless and she wished she had been able to help. She knew all of them had scars from that day that would not heal.

Looking at the baby dragon for a few moments, Sky finally replied, "Well, there are a few similarities, but I hardly think it's anything to get worked up about." Giving Christine a light pat on the shoulder, he added, "I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, okay? Lots of baby dragons look just like this one. So trust me when I say, this one here is perfectly normal and harmless."

"Okay, I trust you," she said softly, looking up at him. She placed the baby back in the pen she found him and walked back to Parn and Deedlit. She gave Parn a gentle pat. "So," she said, glancing over at the dragon he was looking at. "Who's that? I don't remember that dragon before..."

"Yeah, most wouldn't," Sky said as he looked proudly up at the beautiful white dragon. "For a long time, she was just a runt - Codatorta was seriously considering selling her or putting her down because he figured that she wouldn't amount to much and he was needing her pen for some new dragons. But I always thought she was a beauty, so I asked him to let me oversee her diet and exercise; I just wanted to see if I could help her out, you know? I guess I did something right, because she hasn't turned out half bad, if I say so myself."

"She's lovely. If Parn hadn't picked Deedlit, I would have asked your premission to bred him to her," she said quietly. "The coloring for the baby would be just lovely. What's her temprament like?"

Sky laughed as he reached up to pat Tempest's neck. "Well, despite how her name means 'agitation,' she's pretty much the most peaceful, good-natured dragon I've worked with. I'm certainly going to miss her when I graduate next year."
