"You lost." Talya finished the story.

"I underestimated him that time." Eris-an said looking straight in his mother's eyes, "But I did not the next."

Talya frowned at the look in her sons eyes, she'd seen that look before. On new soldiers just after their first kill. Her mind didn't even want to comprehend why her baby had it. "So you saw it as your duty to go after her." At his nod Talya's temper flared and she did something she thought she'd never do. She struck her child in anger. There was a pause after the crack of her smack across his cheek faded, the room went silent. "What were you thinking!" The Queen raged, "This man almost killed you Eris-an. Do realize that? No of course not. If you did then you would not have gone off to challenge him a second time, and still injured no less. What if you had not just underestimated him? What if he was just that much better? Do you have any idea what would have happened? All our families have ever worked toward would have been lost? The peace on our world is fragile enough without risking the loss of the Heir to it's Throne. And what about your father and I? After your brother and all the losses I had... do you really think we could handle burying yet another child?" Now she was crying, to her embarassment. "I could not Eris-an. I can not bury another baby. I would not survive it." Talya put her hands to her face, not even noticing that Eris-an had stood until he hugged her. Putting her arms around him Talya clutched her son, crying out her fear and anger.

Eris-an winced at the sight of his mother's tears. All his life she'd been such a strong and un-bending woman, for all her kindess and grace, to see her reduced to this hurt. Standing slowly Eris-an moved to embrace her.
"I know Mother." Eris-an said once she'd calmed down enough to understand him, "I thought about it all before I went, over and over again. but in the end it was a risk I was willing to take. I risk I had to take."

"But why?" Talya said, already thinking she might now the answer but needing to hear him say it.

"Because I love her Mother." Eris-an answered, "I did not even really realize how much until she was gone. Then the thought of her and that man.... I could not stand it. I had to go get her. Please understand." Eris-an stepped back looking in his mothers face again, letting her see that he was sincere.

"But what if this Psi comes for you in revenge? What will stop him the next time? He has already proven he was willing to kill for what he wants." Talya asked, then frowned again when her son suddenly looked away from her. She felt for then heard the other two boys shifting uncomfortably behind them.

"Psi is no longer an issue." Tash softly spoke up, "He's no longer alive and his heir is comfortably settled into the Princess School on Solaria. When she's old enough, May will have the choice to return to Muna or not." Tash explained and covered some of the other details as well.

"Dead." Talya repeated, looking between Tash and Eris-an. "Eris-an... did you?"

Eris-an's only answer was a sharp nod. As he sat back down on his bed, his legs not really wanting to hold him at the moment.

Talya was confused, as far as she knew Tash and Eris-an still couldn't stand each other. But she also knew her son was not the kind of man to murder in cold blood, there had to be a reason for why he did what he did. And her mother's instinct told her that that reason was Tash, the fact that he claimed to love her only solidified it. With another sigh the Queen just gave them both a warm look, "Then I am just happy you are both safe." she said.

The reason the other's had been pushing Tash and Eris-an together was now blantintly obvious. This was about to make things interesting once more.

Kaelin studied both parents for a second before asking. "If it was your sister, husband, what ever, in the hands of some pysco would you really be able to just stand back and wait? Or would you do everything in your power to bring said person home?"

Tash who'd been about to get up and slip out the door, froze in her steps half from the look her mother was giving her. Clearly indicating she wasn't to go anywhere and waiting for an answer for Kae's question.

That stopped Talya in her thoughts. What would she do? As a mother, wife and woman she knew that her first instinct would be to storm off and bring all the fury off hell to who-ever dared harm her family but as a Queen... well that made things a little more complicated.
