Avoiding her question, Sky replied dryly, "Those aren't exactly what I would call cute." Gesturing at the dog bed against the opposite wall, Sky continued, "Lady - as in my dog Lady - is cute. Those talking furballs are . . . troublesome."

"And how are they troublesom?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. "All 'Beauty did was attack your blanket and hide in there because I was angry." She mock pouted. "And I suppose that means that you don't think *I'm* cute."

Ignoring her last comment, Sky reached across his bed and smoothed his blanket. Flopping back down on it, he closed his eyes and then said with a faint smile as he folded his hands behind his head, "Well, I would appreciate it if it would seek refuge elsewhere. My bed is just that. Mine." Sneezing suddenly, Sky groaned before he asked, "Is it possible to be allergic to them? Because I think I am."

"She," Christine corrected. At Sky's puzzled look, she explained. "Pixietails are female. Every single one is a female. Except I think the combtangles - but that's another story altogether and you don't have to worry about them appearing... I don't think." She tilted her head a moment and thought. "No, you don't have to worry about them."
She paused and thought. "Unless you suddenly developed an allergy to fur which in case, sucks to be you."

"Very funny," Sky replied with a laugh, his eyes still closed. "I'm glad to hear that you find my condition amusing because god knows I don-" Cutting off the end of his sentence, Sky's face took on a grim appearance before he quickly concealed it behind a peaceful expression. Because the last thing he wanted was to get into a big discussion about his feelings.

"You don't," she finished. She made her way over to his bed and settled down on the floor near it. "C'mon, Sky, you know as well as I do that it's not healthy to bottle this up. Go ahead, yell at me. Take your anger and pain out on me. I can weather it."

Pausing for a moment, Sky then asked incredulously as he slowly sat up so that he could get a better look at Christine's face, "Are you serious? For goodness sake, tell me you're not actually serious." Shaking his head, he said quietly, "I don't ever want to hear you say that again, Chris; I don't ever want you to tell me that it's okay to treat you like that. Because it's not. Not now. Not ever."

Christine just gave him a soft smile. "I know, but you were obviously in pain and I figured that it was a good idea for you to have something to direct it at. And since I was sitting here and probably a source of it, well..." she glanced away. "You know me, always trying to help."

Sky shook his head as he replied firmly, in a such a tone that he almost managed to convince himself that what he was saying was the truth, "I'm not in pain. I'm fine. Really. Sure, it's been tough but I'm adjusting and I'm going to be perfectly fine. Hell, I practically already am perfectly fine. I'm back at school with my friends and my dog and the dragons - so stop worrying about me so much. I swear I'm not on the verge of a mental breakdown or anything."

"Speaking of dog," she said, looking at the other Lady. "How is she handling your curse?" she asked, tilting her head.

Sky smiled as he replied, "Do you mean, does she go running out of the room with her tail between her legs? She did at first, but I think she's gotten used to it and so far, I don't think I'm all that dangerous when I transform." With a grimace, he added, "I'm just not such a pretty thing to look at." Brushing this aside, he continued after a moment, "Lady's smart; if she senses something off, she'll go - so I'm not worried about hurting her. Or anyone for that matter." Inwardly, however, he thought to himself: At least not yet.

"Then let me stay with you tonight. Let me see what happens," she said. She held up her hand to stem off any protests. "I understand that I'm taking my life into my hands, but it's just that. My. Life. I'm not a china doll, Sky. You don't have to shield me from life."

Quietly Sky replied as he shook his head, "I care about you a great deal, Christine . . . but as much as I care, you've got to understand that this isn't about you. At all. This is about me. And frankly, I don't want you to see me like that. You can fight me all you want, but the decision is mine to make. I just don't want anyone - you, my parents, Brandon, whoever - to see me when I'm not the me you all know. It just doesn't sit well with me."

"Don't you understand, Sky?" she asked. "I don't lo... care about you for your looks, the inside is more important. The outside may change, but never the inside. That's you, it always will be, and that's what attracted me to you. The handsome prince look was a bonus."

With a sad smile, Sky got up and walked across the room and held the door open. "You say that now, Christine, but if you couldn't even look at me without cringing when I just showed a few effects of the curse, I don't think you'll be able to handle the whole thing. I'm sorry, but I just don't. I suppose we could always test out my theory, but honestly, I'd prefer not to know if I'm right. I'd prefer to leave things as they are now. Because I know that if you saw me like that, you'd always look at me in a different way. And who could blame you? You wouldn't be human if you weren't affected."
