OOC: XD And Chris finally gives Sky the present she had been planning to give him back during his birthday. For those wondering what the statue looks like: arania.kamiki.net/Ambrose/Susan%20Meyer%20Ambrose%20copy.jpg - something like that. Time setting - several days after his birthday Christine quietly made her way to Sky's room, holding a package close to her. She had planned to give this to Sky at his birthday party, but events kept that from happening. She placed the package on the ground for a moment, just long enough to knock on his door. "Sky?" she called quietly. "You awake?" A small part of her hoped that he wasn't - only so he didn't laugh at her when she gave him her present. She wasn't even sure what possessed her to get Sky a statue like that. Well, it was too late now, too late to return it. Time to cross the bridge and hope it didn't burn behind her.

Sky rolled over on his bed at the sound of someone knocking on his door. Lying still for a few moments, he groaned at being awakened and then finally staggered out of his bed and flicked his desk light on. His voice rough from sleep, Sky called out, "I'm coming, I'm coming-"
Making his way to the door, he flung it open as he asked in mild irritation, "Yes?" Taken aback that it was Christine standing in his doorway, Sky quickly amended, "I mean, hey . . . what are you doing here?" With a tired smile, he added as he ran a hand over the back of his neck, "It's kind of late, isn't it."

She picked up the package that was sitting on the floor. "I wanted to give you this," she said quietly. "I meant to give it to you at the birthday party but," she sheepishly blushed. "I just couldn't find the time at the party."
She offered it shyly to Sky. "Here... I hope you like it."

Hesitating for a moment, Sky finally replied as he took the package, "Uh, thank you, Chris. I'm sure that I'll love whatever it is. But you really didn't need to get me anything. The party was more than enough; I mean, you did such a great job - I'm just sorry that I . . . well, ruined it." Shaking his head, Sky said with a thin smile, "I never meant for things to get so out of control, but you know . . ." Sky trailed off as he leaned against the door frame, his eyes cast downward, clearly embarrassed by the scene he had made at the party.

"You saved my life," Christine pointed out. "Besides, let's just say, that it's going to be hard to top that party. Although, hopefully, next year, we, you and me, can go through the guest list and make sure that Byron can't enter at all."

"Next year," Sky echoed as he shook his head. "Do you think that's a good idea? As much as I enjoyed the first part of the party, I have to say, the last part is something I never want to experience again. Somehow I imagine that something very wild will have to happen next year to top this year's . . . and I'm not sure I want to know what that would be." Shuffling his feet, Sky continued gloomily, "I think whatever luck I ever had has run out. These days, my life seems to be a perpetual mess and I can only think that it's not going to get better anytime soon . . ."
Sky paused for a moment and closed his eyes tiredly. "I don't mean to lay this on you, Chris . . . I probably just need some sleep. The party was wonderful and I'm sure that this gift will be wonderful as well. Thanks for being such a great friend; I honestly mean that."

"Sorry," she said quietly, "to have wakened you. Good night, I guess." She tried not to droop and look upset at being dismissed. "I'll see you in the morning, I guess." She silently turned and made her way to head back to her dorm.

As Christine turned to walk away, Sky slowly closed the door behind her. Taking the present, Sky moved over to his desk and placed the nicely wrapped item down. For a moment, Sky hesitated, not sure if he should open it. Part of him still felt guilty, as though he didn't deserve it. She had said that he had saved her life, but it was his fault that her life had been endangered in the first place. He had known about Byron for years - and he should have known that the jerk would pop up again and put her in danger.
With a sigh, Sky finally picked up the gift and began to unwrap it. As he made his way through the layers of tissue paper, he finally wrapped his hand around a solid, heavy object. Carefully pulling it out, Sky smiled as he ran his fingers over the statue. It was the perfect gift. Although, a bit difficult to look at after what had happened - the mess he had caused by transforming during the party. Still, it was a beautiful piece and it had obviously come from the heart. Her heart.
Gently, Sky set it on his desk's hutch and stared at it a few moments more before he turned out his light and made his way back over to his bed. Burying himself beneath the covers, Sky rested the back of his head against his hands as he stared up at the ceiling. He would thank her tomorrow. And yet, it didn't seem adequate. Nothing he did seemed adequate. She had given and given and what had he done but take and take? It wasn't right somehow.
