Sitting on a fallen tree trunk, Karina swatted at her legs and arms in a display of complete exasperation. Of course, the bugs had to be biting and of course she had been stupid enough to commune with nature while wearing shorts. Jumping to her feet, Karina wildly swung around in circles, knowing that she must look like a fool but certain that it was the only way to distract herself from the way the bug bites itched; with one last firm shake, Karina sunk back down to the ground and crossed her arms. It hadn't worked. In fact, it had made things worse - go figure. Now, not only was she itchy, but she felt sweaty and gross as well.
Sighing quietly, wishing that for once she could catch a break, Karina absently pulled a band off her wrist and then reached up to tie her hair back off her hot neck and into a ponytail. As her fingers deftly wove the tie through her hair, Karina paused as she realized suddenly that something felt different. And then she knew - her hair. It felt longer. Not anything like her normal cropped shoulder length cut. Quickly pulling the tie back out of her hair, Karina then brought her new locks over her shoulder and observed them, her brow furrowed in confusion. Her hair - if she could even call it that - was not only long, but also oddly colored. With a startled jump, Karina's eyes widened as she realized that it also moved.
Pushing herself up, Karina desperately shook her head and then paused when she heard a "plop, plop, plop" sound. Glancing down at the ground, Karina's mouth dropped at the sight of three fluffy birds who, upon seeing her, flew up and hovered in front of her face. Carefully reaching out her hand as though to touch them, Karina asked, "Who are you? What were you doing in my hair?" With a soft laugh, she continued to herself, "Oh look at you, silly - as though you actually expect them to be able to answer."
"We're here to take you to Ladyix."
At this unexpected reply, Karina nearly choked. "You c-can talk?"
"Of courseix," the three birds chimed together in unison.
"Well then," Karina answered, lightly clearing her throat, "do you have names?"
"PixiePlume," said one.
"PixieSong," said another.
"PixieTwitter," finished the third.
With a smile, Karina could barely suppress her urge to exclaim, "Aww, you're so cute!" Instead, however, she simply said, "I'm Karina; how do you do?"
