Stella rolled her eyes as she said, "Oh, Flora - you're too much of a romantic." Her voice suddenly becoming mischievous, she added nonchalantly, "It's too bad that you don't have a boyfriend to smother with your affection because I think you would be the best girlfriend. Well, maybe not the best - obviously that title goes to me - but you'd be right up there."

Flora flinched, not too visibly, at the idea of her having a boyfriend. She'd worry about that at a later date, right now... it wasn't really important, was it? She cleared her throat. "Yes, well, nothing wrong with being a romantic," she said, ignoring Stella's comment about boyfriends and girlfriends.

Having turned her back so that she could flip through more fabric swatches, her mind trailing off into a daydream about what wonderful costumes she could put together, Stella didn't notice Flora's reaction to her words. Instead, she only murmured absently, "Mmhmm; good for you, Flo. The world needs more romantics."

Flora took Stella's moment of distraction as an out for her. She silently walked out of the store, feeling more then a bit unhappy with how Stella was acting. What a mess.

Coming across a beautiful yard of blue velvet, Stella squealed with delight and whirled around to show Flora her newly found treasure. "Flo, you've got to see-" Stella stopped mid-sentence, her face falling as she realized that Flora was nowhere to be seen. Furrowing her brow, she placed a hand on her hip as she said, "Well that's strange . . ." Seeing a salesman standing nearby she asked, "Excuse me, did you happen to see my friend? She was with me just a little while ago." But to her dismay, the salesman only shook his head and wordlessly walked away.
With a sigh, Stella reluctantly put the velvet down and then headed out of the shop in search of Flora. Somehow she had a sneaking suspicion that her friend hadn't left just because she was bored. Under her breath, she muttered, "I wonder what I did this time."

Having spent the day in her favorite bookstore, Karina walked cheerfully down the sidewalk as she gently swung the bag which carried her new purchases - another volume of poetry, a blank journal, and a few delicately hand-woven bookmarks. To her delight, the day seemed to keep getting better as she spotted Flora walking a feet ahead. Waving to catch her friend's attention, Karina hurried toward her and then said when she had finally caught up, "Hey; what's going on" As she noticed Flora's seemingly downcast expression, Karina furrowed her brow as she asked tentatively, "Is something the matter?"

"I just feel like something's changed in my friendship with Stella. It's almost like she isn't the person I remember meeting my first year at Alfea," she admitted softly. "I know she means well, but there are some days I just... well... wonder..."

Softly, Karina asked, hoping that she wasn't prying too much, "Is this something that you've been feeling for a while now? Or did something happen today with her that just sent you over the edge?"

"I don't know, I guess ever since this musical thing started, and I guess a little before, like when I asked her for some advice on getting a new look," she admitted quietly. "I just don't understand, it makes no sense really..."

Karina shook her head, still not fully understanding. Clasping her hands together in front of the lavender dress she had borrowed from Alice, she replied, "I don't know Stella all that well, but I have heard, I'm not sure if it's even true, that she has the tendency to speak without really thinking if it can be interpreted as hurtful. Is that maybe what's been going on? Did she say something . . . ?"

"I suppose, it's just," Flora gave a small shrug. "She could have worded a few things better since she knows that there are gaps in my memory and I don't quite remember a lot of things," she admitted.

Having left the shop, Stella glanced up and down the sidewalk to see if Flora would be in sight. Seeing two figures up ahead, one that she recognized immediately as Flora, Stella jogged to catch up. As she drew closer, she started to call out but stopped when she caught a few words of Flora's conversation with the other girl. Flushing, Stella ducked out of sight into the doorway of the nearest shop. She hadn't overheard much, but she had heard enough. Enough to know that Flora seemed to think that she was a screw-up.
Feeling a brief stab of hurt that quickly turned to anger, Stella crossed her arms defiantly over her chest. She hadn't done anything wrong - definitely nothing that would warrant Flora being irritated with her. She was the same old Stella that she had always been and if Flora had a problem with that, she could deal with it on her own.

In an attempt to be helpful, Karina offered, "Maybe she just doesn't realize that she's coming across that way? I'm pretty sure that if she knew that she was hurting your feelings, she'd feel terrible - at least, that's how I would feel. But then again, I'm not Stella so I probably shouldn't be predicting how she would act," Karina finished lamely.

"Maybe," Flora said softly. "I just wish... I know it's too late to wish thing were the way they had been." She gave Karina a soft smile. "Well, instead of angsting away the day, think you could help me with looking to find a poetry book...?"

Wanting to say more, Karina hesitated for a moment before she decided that if Flora wanted to drop the subject, she should let her. Instead, she smiled and asked, "Any book you're looking for in particular?"
