"Exitus acta probat," Palladium said conversationally to Flora, his voice calm as a wave of energy flowed from his outstretched palms and then wrapped around the vines, forcing them back into the earth.
OOC: "Exitus acta probat" is Latin for "the outcome justifies the deed" And on a random note, yay for my 300th post as Palladium XD

OOC: congrats on getting 300
Flora whispered another spell and vines erupted from the ground, wrapping themselves around his legs. She gave a wry grin. Now, what could she do... She really didn't feel like killing him. She made a quick gesture and a nearby tree "roared" to life, intent on swatting the good professor.

Palladium smiled inwardly, glad that he was an elf - meaning that he was not limited to one specific power source. He could fight Flora with her own weapons - he could utilize nature too if it so pleased him. Whispering inaudibly, Palladium's face remained expressionless as his legs remained entangled in the vines. Soon, however, the vines slid back and released him. For a moment, they seemed to just lie still, but then, they sprang to life and hurled themselves at Flora, wrapping around her arms, legs, and chest, slowly creeping up around her neck.
It hurt Palladium to see this, though he did not dare show it on the outside. Silently, he reminded himself, as he had told Flora moments ago, the outcome justifies the deed. If this battle in the end resulted in Flora returning to her true self, then it was necessary and right.

Flora's eyes closed and a silent command had the vines slither down and release her. She opened her golden eyes and after a quick mental conversation with Darkar... laughed. "The master has seen something that intrigues him," she purred, "and none of you ever saw it." Her golden eyes twinkled dangerously and she began to whisper the words to the spell she had cast many months ago - the spell that had nearly turned the good professor into a tree.

Knowing that he had to stop the words to Flora's spell before they could take effect on him, Palladium clenched his jaw, a part of him hesitating to cast the spell that he knew could save him. Doing his best to suppress those thoughts, Palladium shook his head. He had to do this. Firmly, Palladium spoke, looking Flora directly in the eyes, "Ex silentio . . . rigor mortis."
Should the spell work correctly, it would leave Flora without voice and without the ability to move. Without her voice, she would not be able to cast a spell, without being able to move, she would not be able to dodge his attacks. This was his chance to throw the odds in his favor.

Should.. Well... Flora had other plans and a tree rose magically in front of her, blocking the spell from hitting her. She had a smug grin and continued the incantation, all the while, watching the maiden that had captured Darkar's interest. A seer. And a seer from a powerful family. Oh, how utterly delicious.

Seeing his spell blocked, Palladium quickly recited the words to the spell that Cora had cast on him earlier on - but not fast enough. Already, Flora's spell was working on his body and now, his legs and lower torso were encased in bark. But his body now shielded from further damage by the strong orange glow, Palladium changed his tactics. Speaking to the plants surrounding Flora, he managed to lower them until they were around her feet and then, he quickly spoke the latter half of the spell he had tried to cast on Flora, "Rigor mortis." This way, she would not be able to use them to physically attack him. Palladium didn't like that he was playing defense, but at the moment, he had no other choice.

Flora laughed. "I should leave you in this state," she said, grinning. "The master and I have a prize to fetch. Red Fountain's most treasured possession... Its seer," she said with a laugh. "The mighty Eraklyon prince abandoned her - left her alone. She'll be ours."

Palladium froze at this, knowing that if what Flora was saying was the truth, and if she and Darkar should manage to get a hold of the seer, anyone who possessed power, hidden or not, would be in danger. A seer in the wrong hands was a deadly thing - and Darkar's hands were just that. He would use the seer to probe for secrets, for keys to more power . . . and he would find them. It terrified Palladium that this could become a reality, but nevertheless, he stood wordlessly, refusing to let them see his fears.

"The mighty Eraklyon prince was a fool to leave her," Flora said. "There's no-one near her that can hear her scream." She turned and walked over to Darkar. "Shall we?" she asked, smiling up at Darkar.

Stella grimaced at Flora's words. Yes, it was true that she was spoiled and picky and many other things - but she was no idiot. If this seer person really existed and if she was alone now . . . but what did that have to do with Sky, she wondered in confusion. He couldn't have been in charge of watching over the seer - not after that incredible wolf transformation at the dance. For all she knew, he was still a wolf. So then, what connection could Sky have to the girl? And besides that, who was she?
Biting her lip nervously, Stella cast her gaze around her, subconsciously searching for Sky. Perhaps he had gotten word that Darkar was here - perhaps that was why he had left the seer. Perhaps he would show up right now and save the day. Otherwise, they were all majorly screwed. She knew, Brandon knew it, everyone knew it - a seer was a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. And from the looks of it, whoever the girl was, she was about to fall into just those kind of hands.

As Palladium watched Flora and Darkar leave, he felt his heart sink. He had lost. And now . . . Palladium closed his eyes, the thought of it unbearable. If they should manage to capture the seer, all hell would break loose. They'd be close to unstoppable.
But there was nothing he could do at the moment - at least not until he regained the strength that the battle had sapped him of. Wearily, Palladium cast a reversal spell on himself in order to change himself back to his normal, not tree, form.
Seeing Stella sitting with her arms crossed tightly, a scowl marring her face, Palladium gave her a tired smile. "This wasn't a battle you could win, Stella. I know it is difficult to hear that, but against Flora and Darkar's dark magic, you would have been finished in a moment's time. I couldn't allow that to happen . . . but we mustn't dwell on this now because we need to head back to Alfea immediately to inform Principal Faragonda and Griselda about what is about to occur. Time is of the essence."

"Well, if time is so important, stop talking so much and let's go," Stella snapped, not caring that her tone of voice was not exactly appropriate considering that she was speaking to her teacher.

Seeing that Flora and Darkar had left, Cora tentatively walked out of the brush and out into the open clearing. Moving slowly, her body exhausted, Cora stumbled over to where Palladium was standing. As she neared him, she asked concernedly, despite her faint voice, "Lenwë, are you all right? I tried to help you - and I was going to help you the whole time . . . but then you wouldn't let me." Doing her best to put on a cheerful face despite the knot growing in her throat, Cora forced herself to laugh softly, "But you had to do it on your own, didn't you, Mr. Stubborn?" Seeing that her friend was just standing there, his face expressionless, Cora lowered her eyes and then gently wrapped her arms around his waist. Resting her head against his chest, she whispered, "You did everything you could, you know. This isn't your fault."

Feeling Cora's head resting against his chest, Palladium gently wrapped his arms around her lower back and pulled her closer to him. Times like these reminded him why he loved her so much - to him, Cora represented comfort. She was his safe haven. With her he had security, something he needed at the moment. Whispering against her auburn hair, Palladium replied simply, "Thank you."
Stepping back, Palladium took hold of her hand and then tilted his head in the direction of the school building. "But Stella's right; we need to go back."
With that, Palladium somberly led the group back up the trail, unsure as to what exactly he was going to do when they did get back to the main campus.
