Opening the note that a waitress had dropped down on the table beside her drink, Layla's eyes quickly scanned over the short message before she glanced up, searching the crowd for Christine's face. Spotting her, she gave a wave and then mouthed, "Thank you."

Christine gave her a small smile in return and settled down to watch the rest of the show. Hopefully she wouldn't be called up again - she wasn't all that eager to take part in this contest. She was only in it because of that damn announcer.

Melanie came rushing to the stage. She had picked a song that she liked. She wondered how people would react, but was not like she particularly cared. She was aware that she wasn't that good at singing, but she thought that it was fun doing it once in a while. Besides, she couldn't be good at everyhting. She was beautiful, smart, a good dancer and was good designing clothes. It would be good if she could sing really well too, but she didn't have to.
She started singing shortly after she arrived.

"Is there a Miss Carol in the audience?" the announcer asked, peering out not seeing much of anything beyond the lights. "If Miss Carol wants to join us then she just has to come up but it time to go onto the next round. So back to Miss Kevyn."

This time Kevyn went to the stage with hardly any fears. She found herselg enjoying this more then she usually did. The music started and Kevyn threw herself into the song with no hang ups this time.
