"I just hope he got something that we can eat," she said. "Last I heard he liked rather hot and spicy food."

Grinning, Sky replied with a chuckle, "He must use it to fuel his temper."

"Probably," she said, leaning over to give him a chaste kiss on the cheek before the others rejoined them.

Giving Christine's hand a light squeeze, Sky glanced up at the newly returned Riven as he asked in a teasing voice, "Anything in there for us, big guy - or have you forgotten that you agreed to feed us?"

"And something that isn't going to burn us to death if we take a bite," Christine playfully teased.

"Haha," Riven replied sourly as he set a large platter down on the table. "I'll have you know, that the food I eat isn't spicy - you guys are just a bunch of wusses. But to answer your question, no, I did not get stuff that you guys would consider 'hot.'" With a smirk, Riven added, "Unless, of course, you guys think pepperoni pizza is too much for you to handle."

"Pizza's fine," Christine said, snitching a slice of pizza. She nibbled on it slowly. "Wine and pizza, what a combo."

As Riven took his seat, Sky said with pretend concern, "I don't know how you can do it, Chris. This pizza looks pretty hot to me. I better be prepared when I try it." Moving his glass of water next to his plate, Sky grinned. "All right. I'm ready."

Glancing over at Christine, Riven looked at her through slightly narrowed eyes. He couldn't help but feel curious about what had transpired between her and Sky while he had been away, even though he knew that it probably wasn't any of his business. Probably. Still, it wouldn't hurt to ask . . .
"Sky," Riven barked, seemingly out of the blue. "Be useful for once and go get napkins." With a nudge at Brandon, Riven grinned, "You had better go with him or else he might come back with forks."
Once the two had left, Riven immediately turned his attention to Christine. Lifting a brow, he said bluntly, "Okay, now that they're gone: spill."

"We talked," she said quietly, "and he explained what happened. His mother is trying to push him in a certain direction and he doesn't want to be pushed that way. Apparently while his mother finds me to be a nice, sweet girl, but because of my bloodline..." she rolled her eyes. "So, since I took one of those law and ethics classes, I figured I could apply my lessons and see if I can find out if the whole pureblood thing is ethical at all."
"We just got to being somewhat back to the way we were, I think," she added quietly.

"Well, I say that it's about damn time Sky came to his senses," Riven replied. Under his breath, he muttered, "Of course, it only took me having to pound his face in, but whatever." Realizing that he had said that out loud, Riven quickly said, hoping that Christine hadn't heard that, "But you're happy, right?"

"Yeah, I think so," Christine said quietly. "Of course, I'll be happier if things weren't so crazy with his family and his realm," she said quietly. "But beggars can't be choosers. Sky and I will figure something out."

Seeing the other two members of the group making their way back over to the table, Riven gave Christine a warm smile as he said, "Good," before he resumed his usual indifferent expression in time for Sky's arrival.

Christine shyly took one of the napkins out of Sky's hand, blushing when her hand touched his. "Thanks," she said quietly.

"You're very welcome," Sky replied as he flashed her a winsome smile. Under his breath, he added just loud enough for her to hear, "my fairy princess."
