Christine had silently made her way to the arena, bound and determined to get back to what she loved doing, working with the dragons. She rose from the wheelchair and took several shaky steps towards a dragon with pale blue markings. She smiled as the dragon turned his head to look at her. She reached up and stroked the scales, happy to be with her dragons (well, hers as in she was working with them at this moment).
She had a feeling that she'd probably get the lecture of a lifetime from Sky if he caught her, but right at this moment, she was trying to show the others that she wasn't a piece of crystal that they had to baby or avoid so they didn't upset her.
She saw Leo approaching and shot him a look, silently daring him to stop her. She blinked her blue eyes in sheer confusion when he froze and started to pat his hips, almost as if he was looking for his communicator. Well, looks like one of her boys was going to show up and give lecture. Only, which one and what kind of lecture was it going to be? 'Hm, cross that bridge when we get there,' she thought.
One of the hatchlings, who she had worked with long before her stay in the hospital, had grown and its first instinct upon seeing "Mama" was to head butt her, to get her attention, her affection. Of course, his head was at the same level as where she had been injured...
When the hatchling head butted her, she crumpled to the ground, covering the injured spot with her hands. She whimpered quietly as she lay there, just wishing the pain would stop. How could she have been so foolish as to have gone back to wrangling dragons...

Sky brushed a line of sweat from his forehead. He had just had a killer dragon wrangling lesson with Codatorta and it had been great; for the first time in a long time, he had gotten his mind off everything that had been bugging him and instead, he had just thrown himself into his studies. Just like the old days. Before the curse. Before Christine. Before - Sky quickly shook his head. He was doing it again. Dwelling on things he couldn't change. He had promised himself that he wouldn't do that - had promised himself that he would get his priorities straight. And he was going to.
As Sky rounded a corner, he stopped in his tracks at the sight of a body crumpled on the ground in front of the dragons. Too far away to see who it was, Sky felt a flash of fear run through his mind as he wondered which of his classmates could possibly have gotten into it with a dragon. Probably not one of his teammates - they were all far too advanced to be that badly beaten by a dragon. As these thoughts swirled through his mind, Sky ran toward the body as fast as he could. Nearing it, he felt his stomach drop as he saw that it was none other than Christine.
Seeing Leo in the distance, Sky called out to him, hoping to get his attention. Glancing down at Christine, Sky furrowed his brow as he asked frantically, "Chris! Chris! Can you hear me?"

Chris just gave him a soft moan and tried to curl up into herself, anything to stop the pain. She opened her blue eyes and stared up at Sky before closing them again. The pain had to stop, it just had to.
Hot tears of shame and pain streaked down her pale cheeks as she lay on the ground.

"Talk to me, Chris," Sky said firmly. "Are you badly hurt? Did you tear anything? Are you bleeding?" Glancing around, wondering why no one was coming, Sky did his best to keep his voice steady, to not let her see that he was fighting to understand how she could have done something so stupid as coming out to the dragon arena when she was still in a damn wheelchair. "Chris; Chris, stay with me, okay? Now listen to me: do you think you need to go to the hospital?"

A quick shake of her head no was quickly replaced with a nod of yes. She looked up at him, pain clear in her eyes. "Tried to prove point," she whispered, clearly in pain. "Not a china doll you lock up." She closed her eyes tightly. "Parn headbutted me, wanted my attention. But he's tall enough to reach where I was injured..."

Sky closed his eyes briefly as he tried to push down the overwhelming urge to give her a hard shake of the shoulders. After a few more moments, Sky nodded curtly as he said, "I'll be right back; I'm going to go tell Leo to call for help. I don't think I should try to move you by myself, so I'll ask Leo to see if the doctor can come here to see if you should even be moved." Pushing himself to his feet, Sky said in a warning tone of voice, "Don't even think about moving. We need to make sure that you avoid causing yourself any more damage."
With that, Sky strode off in search of Leo. Every so often he would cast a quick glance back over his shoulder to ensure that Christine wasn't doing anything foolish; seeing that she seemed to have listened to him, Sky focused on finding Leo. He had been here just a few minutes ago . . . and now - there he was. Feeling relieved, Sky jogged over to the red-headed student as he called out, "Leo! Leo! You need to call for a doctor. Christine was over with the dragons and one of them butted her where she had been injured and she seems hurt pretty bad. Tell the doctor that he needs to come here because I don't think it's wise to move her."
Without waiting for a response from Leo, Sky jogged back to Christine's side and crouched down by her. "You holding in there?" Sky asked concernedly.

Christine just wept quietly. "Go ahead, laugh at the idiot," she said, trying to fight down the pain so she could speak. "I'm tired of everyone avoiding me because they think I might break if they talk to me, interact with me. I'm still me, I haven't changed."

Sky sighed as he shook his head. He didn't want to deal with this now. Not when Christine was clearly injured. She wasn't ready to duke it out with him; she wasn't ready to hear what he had to say to her. He wasn't going to be responsible for hurting her even more than he probably already had. Not when she was in this condition. Glancing away, Sky said flatly, "You shouldn't talk; you'll waste your energy. Just try to relax and breathe; the doctor should be here soon."

Relax? Breathe? Yeah, okay. She didn't have the strength to argue with Sky and just slipped into unconciousness. The pain was just too much for her body to handle and every so often she whimpered.

Sky watched as Christine slipped into unconsciousness, feeling himself grow tense. He wasn't sure whether his sense of time was just distorted or what, but it felt like it had been an eternity since he had had Leo call the doctor. The doctor should have been there by now. Christine should be on the way to the hospital by now.
Glancing down at her limp figure, Sky felt helpless. There wasn't anything he could do for her besides sit with her and wait. Hell, he probably shouldn't even be doing that. Someone else should. Someone who hadn't been avoiding her and treating her like she didn't exist. Because he had been. It hadn't been fair to her - they had been friends more than anything else, and that meant he should have been there for her. At least as a friend. But he hadn't been. And why? Because it had been easier not to be. It had made his life simpler and had made him feel that he was finally moving past the mess his life had been for the past five or six months.
With a sigh, Sky knew that he had fooled himself into thinking that getting beyond all the things that had happened to him - the curse, Bloom, Christine - could be done with a snap of his fingers. It was going to take more than that. Much more. Starting with honesty. It was time that he cleared some things up with Christine.

: Doctor Sterling finally arrived, looking a little worse for wear. He had gotten sidetracked by several students who had gotten injured just as he arrived at Red Fountain and treated them first - which he mentally chastised himself for doing. "Okay, tell me what happened," he said as he slipped into his role of doctor. "What the hell was she doing up here? Hell, she's not even ready for physical therapy yet. She's still too fragile. What brain dead jock told her it was okay to deal with dragons?" He fixed Sky with a look. "You are going to have to make sure she stays in bed or in the wheelchair when she returns from her second stay in the hospital." He held up his hand, stifling Sky's protests. "Look, I don't give a flying rat's ass about whether or not you love her, or are her husband or what, but I do know she listens to you and trusts you above everyone else so be the team leader you're supposed to be and do what you have to do with her."

Fixing the doctor with an icy stare, Sky replied stonily, "Save the lecture for later; right now Christine doesn't need you to tell me how to behave - she needs you to give her medical attention. After she is attended to at the hospital, if you still wish to give me your advice or to somehow convince me that this is my fault, I will be more willing to listen. Until then, do your damn job and help her in the way that you're supposed to."

: Sterling wordlessly scooped Christine up and adjusted her in his arms, finding it very awkward to hold the seer. She just didn't seem to fit in his arms. A few stifled curses escaped the doctor's lips as he struggled to get her in a comfortable position. "I don't have the equipment I need to do a thorough exam," Sterling said. "I need to get her back to the hospital."

As soon as Brandon got the call from Leo; he dropped everything and made a bee line for the Dragon pens Christine shouldn't be in there yet.
Arriving on the scene to see the doctor lifting Christine in to his arms. "What happened he asked no one in particular just wanting an answer as to why Christine was unconscious yet again.

Sky rubbed his temples as he replied, "For some reason, Christine came out here to work with the dragons. I had just finished up a lesson with Codatorta when I saw a body lying on the ground and I came over here and it was her. I don't know why she would do something like this when she knows that she is in no condition to be doing so. I just don't know. She said that she was trying to prove something, but that doesn't make sense to me. She's smarter than this; I mean, it just isn't like her to knowingly put herself in danger."
