Flora stood in the train station, listening to all the sounds carrying on around her. Her hand strayed to the pocket in her jeans (something she knew the other girls would be shocked to see her wear) and she patted it, making sure the compact was still in it. The last thing she needed was said compact getting lost.
She waited patiently for the familiar strains of the conductor calling out instructions about which train was going to which station in which realm.
Look into my eyes - you will see What you mean to me Search your heart - search your soul And when you find me there you'll search no more Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for You know it's true Everything I do - I do it for you
Look into my heart - you will find There's nothin' there to hide Take me as I am - take my life I would give it all I would sacrifice Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for I can't help it there's nothin' I want more Ya know it's true Everything I do - I do it for you
There's no love - like your love And no other - could give more love There's nowhere - unless you're there All the time - all the way
Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for I can't help it there's nothin' I want more I would fight for you - I'd lie for you Walk the wire for you - Ya I'd die for you
Ya know it's true Everything I do - I do it for you
She mentally laughed at the music that started to play as she boarded the train. The song was too eerie - and it was something she found reflecting her own views on her relationship with the good professor. She didn't have much with her, just a suitcase with some clothes and various little bits and bobs. Her chief possession was in her pocket.
She walked to the back of the train, having been on this one before and knowing her way around it and headed for a back compartment.
She closed the door behind her and pulled the compact out of her pocket. "Professor?" she asked quietly, making sure he had indeed been able to leave Alfea's mirrors...

Palladium laughed softly, "It appears to me that your plan worked."
His laughter fading, Palladium stared at Flora's face, "However, more importantly, how are you faring? I hope this trip isn't going to be too difficult on you . . . but just know that it is for the best."

"I'm fine, just a bit uneasy. I've never been on a train without being able to see before. It's unnerving," she admitted. "I'm just glad you're here to keep me company." She let her fingers touch the glass where his face was. "I'd be awful lonely without some form of companionship." She smiled a bit. "I sent word to my mother that I'm coming home and that I had a bit of an accident but I'm fine all things considering. I just hope she doesn't decide to play twenty questions or decide to bother you - that is, if she can see and hear you. I didn't think to ask the other girls if they could see you. Mmhmm.."

Rubbing his chin thoughtfully, he replied, "I should think that I am visible to all - or at least to everyone who believes in magic. But I suppose it doesn't matter one way or the other, so as long as at least you know I am trapped in here. Now that I have been discovered, my mind can rest easy as I know it will only be a matter of time before I can be freed. Hopefully, when we visit Cora, she will be able to help the both of us." Laughing quietly to himself, "I can only imagine what she'll think when she sees me - probably that I'm an utter fool to have allowed myself to be tricked by a third-rate witch."

"And I the utter fool for casting a spell I shouldn't have," Flora said quietly. "It's just..." She sighed. "One of the lecturers from a lecture I attended during the summer stated that magic was neither white nor black, but that it was the person casting it that made it white or black. And if that's the case, why did the spell have what could be seen as a black magic price to it when I was casting it as if it was a white magic spell?"

Palladium nodded, as he listened quietly to Flora speak. As she finished, he cleared his throat and began, "You see, as I have mentioned before forgotten magic is . . . tricky. However, in order to understand forgotten magic, you must remember the basic rule: magic is virtually alive. This is why magic can be very dangerous to use; although magic will usually submit to its master - the person who casts the spell - it nevertheless has its own willpower. Generally, magic will follow the leader, in a sense. If the spell caster is good, the magic will be used for good. If the caster is evil, the magic will then be used for evil. In this respect, most magic ceases to be actively alive. Instead, it mindlessly goes along with the spell caster. This is not the case with forgotten magic. You see, when magic is forgotten, it is no longer controlled and thus, it regains its willpower. Often, the magic will be bitter at having been forgotten and it will seek revenge. Therefore, when a magic spell is used after it has been forgotten for a long period of time, it will rebel. Yes, I know this all sounds very strange, but it is the simple truth. Anyhow, to summarize, when the magic is forgotten it turns black because it is angry. In this case, the intention of the spell caster is irrelevant because the magic has its own mind."
Smiling gently, Palladium added softly, "This is why the spell you cast turned out the way it did; it has nothing to do with your nature."

"But what makes people forget a spell like that? Was it because even then a price had to be paid or was the price added after it went dark because it was forgotten?" Flora asked. She paused a moment and closed her sightless grass green eyes. "And why would it seek to punish the person who used the spell? Shouldn't it realize that the person who cast the spell, remembered it?"

"Forgotten magic is often irrational. And because it has no way to release its anger while it is forgotten, once it is remember and used, it can do so by wreaking havoc. I wish it was not so, but it is and there is no way to change it, nor should anyone attempt to change it. It is simply the nature of magic."
"As for this particular spell you cast, I am unsure as to when the "price" was added. It very well could have been there all along to test the seriousness of the spell caster's intentions, or it could have been added in later by magic itself after the spell had been forgotten as a means by which revenge could take place."

Flora nodded slightly. "I see," she said, trying to keep the irony of her statement to a minimum. "I just don't understand why it would want to rob its caster of their vision. I suppose it's something I'll never understand about magic."
She paused a moment. "Professor? If the spell hadn't taken my sight... what other price would I have had to pay?"

"While I cannot say for certain why the spell chose to take away your vision, I would imagine that it has something to do with the fact that sight is one of our most important senses. Without it, we are, in many respects, locked away in a prison, isolated from everyone else." Quietly, Palladium continued, "I speak from experience. You see, when I was fourteen, my father fell very ill and although he did not die, he did lose his sight." Simply, Palladium summarized, "It crushed him." Clearing his throat, he waved his hand, "Anyhow, perhaps this is the magic's way of speaking, of expressing its hurt at being isolated itself."

"Perhaps," Flora murmured quietly. "I guess we're alike, you and I. We're both trapped. You in a mirror and I in a world of darkness," she said, lowering her gaze a bit. She cleared her throat. "Sorry, I didn't mean to get so depressive." OOC: ::giggles:: I can see a certain someone getting his butt handed to him in the PM storyline

"You're not being depressing, at all." In an attempt to cheer her up he added, "It's the truth, in reality. I am, after all, trapped in a mirror. Now, if that isn't a prison, I don't know what is."

Flora bit her lip and nodded slightly. "At least getting you out will probably be easier then me getting to see again," she said lightly. She didn't have the heart to tell him that if there was a price to be paid to free him - she would gladly pay it, even if the price was her life.

Palladium smiled sadly, knowing that Flora was right. Cora was skilled enough to know how, or at least to find out how, to release him from his prison because, to the extent of his knowledge, the spell needed to reverse the mirror spell was not forgotten magic. As for the spell needed to reverse Flora's condition . . . he didn't know. For all he knew, Flora's condition was irreversible.
Looking at Flora, he felt a wave of sympathy course through his body. This should have never happened to her, but because he couldn't change that fact, he had to focus now on somehow finding a cure. Crossing his fingers, he whispered a silent prayer that Cora would be that cure.

"Professor?" she asked quietly, her voice quivering. "How do I explain this to the others if my vision never comes back?" She tried to keep her voice steady. "And how can I attend my classes? Oh, I was so foolish, wasn't I?"
