: Aurelie lay in her bed, breathing heavily. Completely exhausted, she snuggled in her blanket, before smiling down at the baby in her arms. She had refused to contact Demetrius to tell him that she had gone in to labor - only because she knew he had been on duty and that he just couldn't leave his post. She smiled down at the baby, and stroked the small thatch of dark hair that the baby had been born with. "Hello, Léa," she said softly.

: Irénée quickly ran down the hallways and headed for where Demetrius was currently located. "Come, come quickly!" she cried breathlessly. "Aurelie has something you need to see!"

Stationed at his post, Demetrius frowned as he asked, "Is it absolutely essential that I be there now? After all, I am on duty and I am not allowed to leave unless it is a dire emergency."

: Irénée tilted her head, and placed a finger against the corner of her lip. "Well, I suppose seeing the new baby isn't too much of an emergency..."

Starting at this news, Demetrius asked quickly, "Is Aurelie all right? Did everything go smoothly? And the baby - how is it? Healthy?"

: Irénée nodded. "Yes, both Aurelie and your daughter are healthy."

"I have a daughter?" Demetrius echoed in mild astonishment. He had never had a daughter - had never really wanted one. Not until that moment. Shaking his head to clear his mind, Demetrius turned to the other guard on duty and asked him to cover the post for a little bit. Turning back to Irénée, Demetrius said, "Take me to her, please."

: Irénée nodded. "This way," she said softly, leading Demetrius back to Aurelie's chamber. She silently opened the door and closed it behind Demetrius after he had entered. : Aurelie was cooing softly to her daughter when she heard the door open and close. She looked up, a soft maternal smile on her thin, frail face. "Does the proud papa want to hold his little girl?"

Looking at the baby - his daughter - Demetrius felt his heart simultaneously swell with pride and break. She was so beautiful. So tiny. So fragile. The little girl deserved a good father; she deserved a family. A normal family. A family that would love her the way she needed to be loved. But he couldn't provide that. He could give her money, toys, clothing - anything that could be bought. But he couldn't give her the one thing that every child deserved. Family. He couldn't give it to because he already had one and as kind as Philomena was, he knew that she would never welcome his daughter into their lives. As he held his daughter in his arms, Demetrius finally asked achingly, "Does she have a name?"

: "Her name is Léa," Aurelie said softly. "I hope you aren't upset that I named her without asking you. I just wanted her to have a name.."

Demetrius shook his head as he said, masking the intense emotions he felt, "No, she's your daughter; you should name her whatever you like." Giving her a thin smile, he added, "It's a beautiful name, though."

: "Thank you," Aurelie said softly. She yawned quietly, feeling a bit exhausted. Léa opened her eyes, revealing eyes the same color as her father, and smiled up at him.

Staring down at Léa, Demetrius wondered to himself if he could do this. Be around this little girl. Watch her grow up. Know that as much as he wanted to love her and to give her the world, she would always have to come second to Mena, Alec, and Damien. Just because she was illegitimate. It seemed unfair, but such was the way things worked in the world. Finally returning his daughter to her mother's arms, Demetrius asked quietly, "Has Her Majesty decided to allow you to stay on as a lady-in-waiting? Or will you be sent away now that you've given birth?"

: "I haven't heard anything from her majesty. She's probably waiting until I'm strong enough to travel to tell me that I have to leave," she admitted softly, adjusting her top so the baby could start nursing. "Is it all right for me to be out and out terrified of this whole thing? What if I do something wrong...?"

Giving her a dry smile, Demetrius replied, "Well, if you do happen to do something wrong, I wouldn't be able to tell. Even though I already have my two boys, I hate to say that I haven't been much of a father to them; after eleven years, I don't think I've learned squat about being a parent."
