Having come to the conclusion that those two females were going to "mother" him to death, Howl made a sharp turn into a classroom, rather then return to that dorm and deal with the ladies. And so, there he was, nose buried deep in some book when he heard footsteps approach from behind. He hoped that if he gave the impression that he didn't notice the person coming up from behind him - that they'd leave him alone.
Luckily Calcifer hadn't popped into here to drive him crazy yet, which to Howl was always a blessing. He sighed - he did care for the fire demon, but there was a but when dealing with Calcifer. Granted, the first time had been his fault, having made a deal with Calcifer that he didn't quite understand at the time (he had been a child when it happened).
His blue eyes focused on a poem, and groaned to himself. "Of course, my least favorite poem would be in this book. Why am I reading it again? Oh, yes, because I'm a sucker for poetry by Donne."
He sighed softly and read the poem aloud to himself. "Go and catch a falling star, get with child a mandrake root, tell me where all past years are, or who cleft the devil's foot, teach me to hear mermaids singing, or to keep off envy's stinging, and find what wind serves to advance an honest mind.
If thou be'st born to strange sights, things invisible to see, ride ten thousand days and nights, till age snow white hairs on thee, thou, when thou return'st, wilt tell me, all strange wonders that befell thee, and swear, no where lives a woman true and fair.
If thou find'st one, let me know, such a pilgrimage were sweet; yet do not, I would not go, though at next door we might meet, though she were true, when you met her, and last, till you write your letter, yet she will be false, ere I come, to two, or three."
He sighed. "Catch a falling star, indeed. I hope none of these so-called heroes weren't foolish enough to actually try. I doubt they could understand what could happen if they did." He reached up and rubbed the area where his heart was.
