OOC: post Christine's return after being kidnapped by Ares and Demeter
Christine made her way down to the dragon arena, her footsteps silent, having learned her lessons well from Sky and Riven on the concept of stealth. She was almost too good - constantly appearing behind people and scaring them when she spoke suddenly.
She felt at peace, at home when she was with the dragons - frequently drawing herself into long conversations that only she could understand. Her blue eyes softened as she spotted the pair of dragons that were her responsiblity - Parn and Deedlit. Her pace quickened and she smiled up at the pair.
"Oh," she cooed softly, scooping up the baby. "Aren't you a precious little one," she said, settling down on the ground, rocking the tiny hatchling.
"We're walking in the air, we're floating in the moonlit sky, the people far below are sleeping as we fly...
I'm holding very tight I'm riding in the midnight blue I'm finding I can fly so high above with you
On across the world the villages go by like dreams the rivers and the hills the forests and the streams
Children gaze open mouthed taken by surprise nobody down below believes their eyes
We're surfing in the air, we are swimming in the frozen sky, we are drifting over icy mountains floating by
Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep, rousing up a mighty monster from its sleep
We're walking in the air, we're dancing in the midnight sky and everyone who sees us greets us as we fly," she sang, her voice soft and gentle as she rocked the baby dragon.
She slowly shifted into humming the melody when she heard footsteps approach her and the hatchling. Her eyes widened as she stared at the figure.
"Riven?"

After his fight with Sky, Riven’s mind had been made up. Red Fountain had been his home, and like hell he was going to let anyone sully its name. The outside world was all well and good, but in all honesty, he was a nobody. He wasn’t a hero; there was no fame or glory. There was just boredom.
At Red Fountain, he was a star. He could be that again. Imagine the reputation he’d garner if he alone returned the squad to their former glory and rightful spot as number one? It was far too tempting to pass up.
He’d just moved his stuff back without any notice; it had been easy... he didn’t have many things. So far nobody knew, not even Darcy. He’d tell her eventually, but more than anything he couldn’t wait to see the looks on the other guys’ faces when he told them he was back. It was going to be a fun day.
Leisurely exploring his old stomping grounds, a familiar sound suddenly reached his ears. For the briefest instant he almost smiled as he felt a tug at his heartstrings, but he quickly caught himself. Rolling his eyes, he made no effort to hide his approach.
Ah, there was one of the looks he’d been looking forward to.
“What is it about baby animals that makes girls melt into singing and babbling goo?”

"I don't know. But who couldn't love the sight of a baby dragon?" she asked, adjusting the hatchling in her arms. "Hard to believe that this little cutie is going to be a big tough guy in a few years," she added.
She smiled down at the dragon. "Now this, little Ghim, is your ever loving, ever cranky, ever tempermental Uncle Riven. Go on, say hello," she said, coaxing the dragon to greet the other specialist - that is, if he was still calling himself one. She didn't know.
Ghim just peered at Riven before yawning, a puff of smoke coming out of his mouth.

If she was speaking in general terms and not just about girls, then the obvious answer to her question was, of course, “Riven”. He didn’t think babies were cute. He didn’t get this overwhelming urge to hold them, and he thought that their cries were the most annoying, grating sound in the world. Baby animals were no different.
This was what passed for Specialists nowadays?
“Dragons are for wrangling, not for cuddling,” he said flatly, not bothering to hide his look of disgust at the “Uncle Riven” comment.

"He's just a baby, was just hatched. Far too young to start wrangling. We don't want to cripple him and have him destroyed before we find out what he's capable of," Christine countered, putting down Ghim to get up and stand before Riven, her eyes flashing a bit in agitation.
"And considering that I grew up with dragons, I think I can get away with a little cuddling. Hell, I have a house dragon at home so don't tell me I can't cuddle." Damn it, why did she always sound like the kid sister when she dealt with Riven.

The more she said it, the more he realized that the word “cuddle” should be stricken from a Specialist’s dictionary.
“I wasn’t suggesting to wrangle him now,” he replied, rolling his eyes again. Stuffing his hands in the front pockets of his jeans, he kept his eyes on Chris as she stood up. “Fine, do what you want, but don’t expect me to get all starry eyed over it.”

"I wasn't expecting Mr Macho to go weak kneed at the sight of a baby. That would just scar me mentally for life," she countered, crossing her arms over her chest. Yep, still feeling like the kid sister. Damn it, what was it about Riven that made her the "kid sister" to his "big brother" - and he didn't even have GI Joes for her to break and attempt to apologize for breaking. She mentally shook herself.

“We wouldn’t want that,” Riven replied, his gruffness waning, though only slightly. Removing his hands from his pockets, he crossed his arms over his chest as well to mimic Christine’s standoffish stance.
“Now, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think that you were surprised to see me,” he said with a bit of a smirk.

"Considering the tone you gave us when you left," she started before shrugging. "Why shouldn't I be surprised that you came back? Your tone said basically that you wanted nothing to do with us and that you could care less about what happens to us."
Relaxing - but not a heck of a lot - she uncrossed her arms. "Team's not the same without you," she confessed. "Timmy's god knows where and Helia..." she started, feeling slightly afraid. "Well.. he's.. he's not like how you remembered him..."

Even though Chris relaxed, Riven retained his stance. Her words just boosted his confidence. He’d made the right choice. Whether they wanted him or not, the did need him. It bothered him to hear that Timmy was gone. That was one tidbit he’d failed to find out, and something else that Sky seemed to care nothing about. He wondered if they were looking for him as hard as they’d looked for Brandon. As for Helia, he hardly gave a damn. He was a latecomer, and with all the poems and the art he was practically a chick himself.
“Oh, that’s all still true. I could care less about all of you personally,” he stated, matter-of-factly. “And it’s also true that the team isn’t the same without me, which is why I’m back.”

"The last I saw Timmy he was in some R&D program, Saladin wasn't forthcoming with any information, no matter how hard I begged or asked," she said quietly. "And Helia... He's not with us any more. He got pulled to the dark side, calls himself Ares the god of War now. Yeah, I know how strange that sounds but," she said her voice trailing off as both fear and sadness crossed her pale features. "It's bad. Very bad."

Apparently there was something about “I could care less” that Christine didn’t understand. Instead of getting all uppity that he didn’t give a damn about them, she proceeded to explain all their worries as if he did.
Already with the drama. He hadn’t been back more than an hour and he was already being reminded of why he had left.
“Helia, the God of War? Ha! That’s rich,” he said. “This place was already on it’s last legs, but it sounds like it went completely to hell without me. I’m gonna have my work cut out for me.”
Lacing his fingers together, he stretched his arms out straight in front of him and cracked his knuckles.

"You don't understand. Something's changed about Helia. It's not the Helia we know. It's someone darker, evil." She shuddered. "I mean hell, Flora's on the dark side too. Calls herself Demeter. And some serious shit's going down, Riven," she said. Her composure was slipping as tears streaked down her face. "Instead of worrying about just Darkar. There's another. Somehow this wizard broke out of Omega.."

Again she ignored him. Was she even listening to a word he said? He. Didn’t. Care. If there was all this bad stuff happening, what did it matter to him? To any of them? With the shape their team was in, there was nothing they could do to stop any of it. They had to focus training and teamwork first before they could even begin to strategize a way to fight this “evil”.
And then, oh bugger, there came the waterworks. Growling in frustration, Riven brushed roughly past Christine before turning and pacing back toward her.
“See this? This is exactly why you don’t belong here!” he yelled, pointing his finger at her. “Specialists don’t cry!”

"Do you know what it's like being a seer and seeing worlds being conquered, destroyed because some wizard who's on a f**king power trip decides that gee, this world has a power source I can use and destroy everything that's good in this universe just because I can? And you expect me *not* to cry?" she exploded, her temper finally getting the best of her.
"Andros was attacked! Espero will be attacked! As will Solaria, Zenith, Harmony, and so on down the line! And why? Because there's someone that's worse then Darcy, Stormy, and Icy out there and there's precious little we're doing besides ignoring the fact that if we don't stop him now, there will be no way to stop him!"
She was trembling both out of fear and finely tuned rage. "Sky blew my fears off, and you are too. So tell me, when I see something of this magnitude again, should I just keep it to myself since that's what all of you are insisting I do? Just don't come crying to me when your home gets destroyed because I tried to give you warning!"
