OOC: Even though we're currently taking a break from the quest thread to do the Valentine's Day plot, this thread will be set during the time of the quest.
In the privacy of the forest, Karina sat slumped against the trunk of a tall oak tree, her head in her palms and her chest aching from suppressed tears. It had happened. Again. She should have seen it coming the moment when Griselda had taken the class out to an open field to, in her words, "show me what you've all got." But she hadn't and now . . . and now, she felt like absolute crap.
Squeezing her head, trying to block out her humiliation, Karina grimaced. Each student had been asked to perform her most powerful attack - to see how she'd progressed in her studies, of course. And each girl had done wonderfully - well, at least they had managed to actually summon up their power. That is, until she went out to the center. Karina laughed bitterly; of course she'd be the one to manage to screw up, to make an absolute idiot of herself. As she had watched each girl perform a pseudo-attack, she had somehow convinced herself that she would be able to be like them - that she would for once be able to just use her magic out of the blue. But she hadn't been able to. As it so happened, she could only use her magic when powered by necessity or after immense concentration. Lucky her.
Moments before entering the center, she had thought that she was focused - but the second she felt everyone's eyes on her, the second she heard the whispers of her peers, she lost it. Focus was replaced by panic, and so, she just . . . stood there. Not transforming . . . just looking stupid. And then, to add insult to injury, that horrible girl, Amaryl, actually had the audacity to laugh.
And so, here she was now. Sitting by a tree. Probably looking like a pathetic idiot. And about to cry nonetheless-
In a burst of pride and irritation at her self-pity, Karina leapt to her feet, as though the ground had burned her. Dusting her skirt off, she closed her eyes and whispered to herself, "Transformation time."
